The Craimoosweiher is a lake near Schnabelwaid in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth .
location
The lake is located about three kilometers south of Creußen and about 8.5 kilometers north of the city of Pegnitz , on federal highway 2 . Craimoos, part of the Schnabelwaid market, is located southwest of the pond.
Data
The lake has a length of approx. 660 and a width of approx. 180 meters. Less peninsulas and indentations, this corresponds to a water surface of approx. 15 hectares. This makes it the largest pond in the Bayreuth district. It is located at a height of 447.5 meters and lies exactly on the watershed of the Main and Pegnitz .
Watershed
The water from the Craimoosweiher flows both to the north into the Red Main and to the south over the Weihergraben and Zipser Mühlbach towards Fichtenohe zur Pegnitz . This means that the pond is not only a hydrographic specialty, but also the origin of a circle that ultimately closes again when the Regnitz flows into the Main - a water bifurcation that is quite rare in Europe . The Craimoos pond, which has been under nature protection since 1985, belongs to the FFH area (Fauna-Flora-Habitat) and is thus part of the Europe-wide network of protected areas Natura 2000 .
Flora and fauna
Rare aquatic plants such as the tender horn leaf, which is threatened with extinction, or the little mermaid thrive in the water.
The Craimoosweiher is a breeding ground for rare water birds such as the black-necked grebe and a type of black-headed gull . Ten species are represented from the group of amphibians ; seven of them are on the red list . For example, the common garlic toad , the moor frog and the crested newt are threatened. The Craimoos pond is also important for rare insect species such as the flat-bellied dragonfly. The formerly man-made pond is surrounded by fens . The small Craimoos pond has been located south of it since 2003 .
