Damián Suárez , full name Damián Nicolás Suárez Suárez , (born April 27, 1988 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

Depending on the sources, 1.72, 1.73 or 1.75 meters tall defensive player "El Zorro" Suárez began his career at Defensor Sporting . He has been playing for the Montevideans since he was eleven. His debut in the first team dates from 2006. There are from the Clausura 2008 a total of 63 appearances in the Primera División , in which he scored two goals. He also played four games (one goal) in the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 and eleven games in the Copa Sudamericana . According to another source, 82 games and two goals are listed in its statistics without any specific reference to the competition. In 2007/08 he won the Uruguayan championship with his club. In the 2011/12 season he was then under contract with Sporting Gijón in Spain and played in 19 games (no goal) in the Primera División . His debut with the Spaniards, who are said to have paid a transfer fee of 570,000 euros for his services, he celebrated on September 11, 2011 in the match of the third game against CA Osasuna , when he was ordered into the starting line-up by coach Manuel Preciado . For the 2012/13 season he moved to FC Elche , with whom he was promoted to the top Spanish league at the end of the season. He contributed to this with 33 games and one goal. In the 2013/14 season he made 31 league games (one goal). In the 2014/15 season, which his club finished 13th in the table, he was used 34 times (one goal) in the Primera División. However, his club had to relegate for the 2015/16 season due to financial liabilities. On June 4, 2015 it was reported that Hamburger SV was interested in signing Suárez. Finally, on June 23, 2015, the Spanish first division club Getafe FC announced their commitment for the 2015/16 season. In the 2015/16 season he played 31 top division games (no goal) and two matches (no goal) of the Copa del Rey there . At the end of the season, the club was relegated. In the following season 2016/17 he was used 41 times in the Segunda División and once in the cup (no goal each time).

National team

Suárez took part in the U-16 South American Championship in Paraguay in 2004 with the Uruguayan U-16 selection, coached by Gustavo Ferrín and Ángel Castelnoble , and finished fourth with the team. He was also a member of the Uruguayan U-17 national team , with which he took part in both the 2005 U-17 South American Championship in Venezuela and the U-17 World Cup. In the course of the World Cup tournament, he played three international matches. At the U-20 South American Championship in Paraguay in 2007 , he was also in the Uruguayan squad. He also took the U-20 in his home country at the U-20 World Cup 2007 in part. There are also three competitions for him recorded there.
