Dance of Death (English for: " Dance of Death ") is the 13th studio album by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden . The album was released on September 8, 2003 via EMI .

background

For the first time, the drummer Nicko McBrain took part in the songwriting. Together with Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith he wrote the song New Frontier . All keyboards were recorded by Steve Harris . With Journeyman , Dance of Death contains the first purely acoustic song in the band's history.

The cover was designed by David Patchett. Patchett was best known for his covers for the band Cathedral . The first draft showed Eddie as the Grim Reaper with four monks in the background. To add some pizzazz to the cover, Rod Smallwood, the band's manager, hired an ironmaiden.com employee to work out the characters around Eddie. The design was returned to Patchett. Since he was not satisfied with the result, he asked not to be mentioned in the booklet. When the cover hit the internet, many fans thought the band was trying to prank them. The cover artwork caused controversy among Maiden fans.
