Daniel Spivak (born August 9, 1988 in Netanya ) is an Israeli - Canadian ice hockey player who played in the course of his active career mostly in Israel and later in the North American minor leagues .

Career

Daniel Spivak, who was born in Israel but grew up in Thornhill , Canada , began his career with the Markham Islanders in the Greater Toronto Hockey League , a regional youth league in the Canadian province of Ontario . In 2004 he was drafted at the OHL Priority Selection in round 11 as a total of 207th player from Sarnia Sting , but without ever playing for the team. He then played until 2009 with Stouffville Spirit in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League . He was also active for various clubs in the Israeli ice hockey league. He was able to become Israeli champions in 2005 with HC Maccabi Amos Lod and in 2007 and 2008 with the Haifa Hawks . In 2008 he moved to the RIT Tigers , the team at the Rochester Institute of Technology , with whom he played in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association until 2012 . He won the main round of Atlantic Hockey with the Tigers in 2010 and 2011 and was able to win the league in 2010 by beating the Sacred Heart Pioneers 6-1 in the final . In the following year, the playoff final against the US Air Force Falcons was lost 0-1. Also in 2012 the final against the team of the Air Force Academy was reached, but this time lost with 0: 4. He also continued to play in the Israeli league, which he won with HC Ma'alot in 2010.

After completing his studies, he first played a few games for the Reading Royals in the ECHL and then spent the 2012/13 season with the Fort Worth Brahmas in the Central Hockey League , where he was elected to the league's all-rookie team . After the Brahmas stopped playing at the end of the season, he returned to the ECHL, where he was on the ice for the Gwinnett Gladiators . In 2015 he was under contract with the Rochester Americans , but did not play a game for the team and subsequently did not appear at the club level.

International

In the youth field, Spivak was on the ice at the World Junior A Challenge in 2007 for Canada East , a selection of the best players in the junior leagues in eastern Canada, and won the silver medal with the team behind Canada West and ahead of the USA.

Spivak made his debut for Israel at the 2005 World Cup in Division II, when the Israelis first achieved promotion to Division I. There the men with the Star of David on their chests at the 2006 World Cup were overwhelmed and immediately relegated without winning a point and with a goal difference of 3:47. He also played in 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2010 when he was voted the best player in his team, in 2012 , 2014 when he was again named best player in his team, in 2015 when he was the top scorer among the defensive players and also the best defender of the tournament was chosen in 2016 , 2017 and 2018 in Division II. At the 2011 World Cup , he even had to compete with the Israelis in Division III after relegation, and achieved immediate promotion to Division II with his team, for which he was the best Defender of the tournament and top scorer among the defenders contributed significantly. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Games in Sochi 2014 , where the Israelis failed in the pre-qualification.
