David Salomon Jarquín (* 1986 in Granada , Nicaragua ) is a Nicaraguan trumpeter .

Life

Jarquín was born in Nicaragua as the youngest of nine siblings. His father, a professional trombonist , sent Jarquín at the age of seven to Casa de los tres mundos in Granada , where he learned to play the piano , received his first trumpet lessons from Danilo Arauz and was tutored from 1993 to 2002. It was there that the trumpeter Guido Fröhlich from the Münster Symphony Orchestra became aware of him and taught him regularly from 1994 to 2002 as part of the Embrassy brass courses. At the age of eleven he performed the only trumpet concerto by Joseph Haydn with the Nicaraguan National Orchestra . In 2001, Fröhlich managed to secure a scholarship from Pan y Arte to the then 15-year-old Jarquín , where he toured with Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E flat major. In 2002 followed a tour as solo trumpeter under the direction of Leonard Slatkin , Kurt Masur and Gustavo Dudamel through North and South America, on which he was accompanied by the Youth Orchestra of the Americas . From November 2002 Jarquín was a student at the municipal, musical Christian-Dietrich-Grabbe-Gymnasium in Detmold . In the 2002/2003 winter semester, Jarquín began studying music with Max Sommerhalder at the Detmold University of Music as a young student .

Jarquín won first place with the highest possible number of points at the national youth music competition in Jena in June 2003 . In September 2003 he was awarded the European Prize for Young Artists by the European cultural foundation “Pro Europa” in Lucerne . This was followed by solo appearances with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra in March 2004, where he performed Henri Tomasi's Trumpet Concerto from 1948, followed by gala appearances in Switzerland and at the Maurice André International Trumpet Festival in Lyon . Maurice André , one of Jarquín's role models, invited the young musician to the Privatissimum in Detmold in 2004 . At the age of 18, Jarquín won the German University Competition in Hamburg as the youngest participant in May 2005 with a piece of music by Hans Werner Henze . Jarquín completed masterclasses with James Thompson and Stanley Friedman in the USA.

Jarquín recorded his first solo CD with the title Cascadas from July 9-14, 2005 with the brass ensemble Embrassy. In 2006 Jarquín played Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen by Bernd Alois Zimmermann from 1944/45 as part of the university competition for conductors. From April to September 2008 he played as solo trumpeter with the NDR Radiophilharmonie in Hanover . On August 17th, 2008 Jarquín won the audience award of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival . In 2009 he played several concerts and operas with the Münster Symphony Orchestra . Further international appearances followed, including at the European Classic Festival Ruhr as well as in Dubai and Abu Dhabi . In 2010 he played Haydn's Trumpet Concerto with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra . With Günther Herzfeld Jarquín voiced various works of the 20th century for trumpet and piano. Jarquín is now working as a trumpet teacher in East Westphalia-Lippe .
