The Vitality Stadium , originally and in the parlance often Dean Court , is a football stadium in the southwestern English city of Bournemouth , county Dorset . The Bournemouth AFC stadium opened in 1910 and has a capacity of 11,464.

history

The stadium was completed in 1910 and named Dean Court after the Cooper-Dean family who provided the property. At the inauguration, AFC Bournemouth played against the reserve team of Southampton FC .

In 2001 the facility was renovated and the playing field was rotated 90 ° . The first game after the renovation took place on November 10, 2001 between AFC Bournemouth and Wrexham FC . In 2005 the Cherries had to sell the stadium. The club and the new owner Structadene , a real estate company , agreed a lease back sale . A buyback has failed several times.

After the last renovation in the summer of 2013, the venue has four covered grandstands (two longitudinal and two rear grandstands) and offers seating for 11,464 visitors. The venue was supplemented by the Ted MacDougall stand with 2,400 seats. Around 1,500 seats are available in part of the east stand for fans of the visiting team. In the main stand are the club office, the press area, a fitness center, physiotherapy room and crew cabins, as well as VIP - boxes and conference rooms.

The pitch has had a hybrid turf since December 2016 . Since the repurchase of the Dean Court did not come about again, the club is planning to build a new football stadium. The old stadium has 11,464 seats and is by far the smallest venue in the Premier League. An expansion of the Vitality Stadium would only come into question for the AFC with the buyback, but the stadium owner and the club could not come to an agreement. With the help of the city, the Cherries are currently looking for a plot of land for a new building. The new home site should be ready for use by the 2020/21 season.

At the beginning of October 2018, AFC Bournemouth announced that the new construction plans would initially be put on hold. The club and the shareholders decided to postpone the construction of the new stadium. After a financial analysis, building it would be too big a risk. First, you want to stabilize the level of the team and stay competitive.

Sponsor names

From 2001 to 2010 the facility was named Fitness First Stadium after the fitness studio operator Fitness First Ltd. In February 2010 the CLASSIC Eyes Eye Care Center became the official stadium sponsor and namesake through a raffle. The contract ran until the end of the 2010/11 season. In addition to the name Classic Eyes Stadium, Classic Eyes took care of the optometric care of the players and had special offers (contact lenses, sunglasses, etc.) for the club's fans. In July 2011 the venue was named Seward Stadium after sponsor Seward Motor Company , but in 2012 it was renamed Goldsands Stadium .

With the first promotion to the Premier League in the 2015/16 season , the Dean Court received a new namesake. Health and life insurance company Vitality signed a three-year contract with AFC Bournemouth. The new name of the venue is Vitality Stadium .
