Denim Air ACMI (originally Denim Air until 2010 ) was a Dutch airline based in Mijdrecht and based at Amsterdam Airport .

history

Denim Air was founded in February 1996 in the Netherlands by entrepreneur and flight school operator Hamid Kerboua. Initially, services from Eindhoven to London City Airport were started. In 1997, however, these services were discontinued after the fixed Philips BV contingent ceased to exist. In that year she also changed the business structure and was most recently a member of the Wet Lease Association. In 1999 Denim Air was taken over by the Spanish Air Nostrum . From July 2005, however, Denim Air was owned by Panta Holdings BV . Later Denim Air only operated on the ACMI market. Denim Air employed around 300 people in 2010.

On February 18, 2010, flight operations were suspended for the first time for financial reasons. Managing director Roy de Ligt named the expiry of the ACMI contract with the Spanish Air Nostrum as one of the reasons , after which Denim Air was no longer able to conclude a similarly large contract.

The company was restructured in the same year and was renamed Denim Air ACMI. It remained a subsidiary of Panta Holdings. Denim Air ACMI continued to operate its aircraft for other airlines under ACMI lease . From spring 2013, for example, the company operated flights departing from Kristiansand for the Norwegian airline FlyNonstop until its bankruptcy in October 2013.

In the early summer of 2013, a major ACMI mission started for the Aalborg- based Danish virtual airline Greenland Express . With a refueling stop in Keflavik , Aalborg and Copenhagen in Denmark were connected to Narsarsuaq and Kangerlussuaq in Greenland. However, repeated payment difficulties at Greenland Express led to the end of this project, so that its last flight took place on September 16, 2014.

On November 24, 2014, Denim Air ACMI announced that Panta Holdings was selling the airline to the management of Denim Air. Charter flights and ACMI leasing will continue to be offered, but the airline now wanted to offer scheduled flights itself . To this end, the appearance was adapted, denim as a robust fabric should characterize the tail fin.

On January 18, 2016 Denim Air ACMI was acquired by the successor company of Greenland Express, Sky Greenland , in order to use Denim Air ACMI's AOC for a restart later in the same year.

Between November 14 and 23, 2016 Denim Air ACMI flew the Altenrhein-Cologne route for People's Viennaline with a stopover in Friedrichshafen .

Due to outstanding payments, the remaining Fokker-100 was initially confiscated in mid-November 2016 during a maintenance visit in Amsterdam. On November 23, the external technology partner also decided to discontinue the collaboration. This led to the cessation of operations and the withdrawal of the operating license ( AOC ) the following day. Denim Air ACMI filed for bankruptcy on January 10, 2017. The company has been in liquidation since then.

fleet

Up until the first cessation of operations in February 2010, Denim Air's fleet consisted of 23 aircraft:

When operations ceased in November 2016, Denim Air ACMI's fleet consisted of two aircraft:

Up until the end of operations, Denim Air still operated a Fokker 100 with the identification PH-MJP, which was procured for Greenland Express in 2014 and was painted in Sky Greenland in 2016. This machine performed a belly landing at the previous owner Contact Air because the landing gear could not be extended. Apart from that, three more copies of this type have been used at Denim Air since 2010.

From 1996 to 2014, Denim Air operated a Fokker 50 aircraft a total of 38 times, with 18 individual aircraft.

A total of seven DeHavilland Canada DHC-8s were in use for Denim Air between 2006 and 2010.

Two Embraer 190s appeared twice at Denim Air in 2013.

An ATR-42 was in use for Denim Air in 2015.
