The Lisbon crime thriller is a German TV crime series by ARD . In the lead role Jürgen Tarrach determines as the Portuguese lawyer Eduardo Silva, together with Vidina Popov as his young assistant Márcia Amaya. The series is set in the Portuguese capital Lisbon , the first episode The Dead in the Surf was broadcast on April 5, 2018, the second episode Old Bills , a week later, on April 12, 2018 in the first for the first time.

Episode 1 The dead in the surf

The life of the former public prosecutor Eduardo Silva is completely changed after a hard stroke of fate. He now lives modestly in a small pension run by the cheerful and cordial landlady Beatriz Oliveira. To the small outdoor tables of the pension he now works as a small public defender . As a courtesy and very reluctantly, he takes the young Márcia Amaya as his assistant. She is a freshly qualified lawyer with the best degree of her year and is highly committed, but because of the general prejudice against her Roma affiliation, she doesn't get a chance.

The unequal team takes over the mandatory defense of the disturbed Joana Soares, who is said to have murdered her husband. His body, tied up as a package, washed up on the coast; the episode title refers to it.

However, the two lawyers do not believe in their client's guilt and, during their investigation, come across the dead man's involvement in a mafia-like cancer drug trade. In doing so, they experience the resistance of the intimidated family of their client and the Mafia boss Tiago Zarco. In addition, Eduardo Silva and the cool public prosecutor Júlio dos Santos seem to be particularly hostile.

Episode 2 Old Bills

Silva now finally wants to put an end to the work of the Mafia boss Zarco. Silva's assistant Amaya struggles to dissuade Silva from his plans for revenge, which endanger his admission to the bar and thus his existence.

Episode 3 Dark Traces

Eduardo Silva takes over the defense of the clothing manufacturer Alves, who is accused of insurance fraud after the explosion in his factory . Silva, who is still suffering from the loss of his wife, feels for Alves, who is looking after his terminally ill wife, and wants to help him.

However, Silva's assistant Marcia does not believe in the innocence of the entrepreneur, and hints u. a. on fake branded clothing with her uncle's entanglements cause her to investigate on her own.

Dona Beatriz, Silva's landlady, loses her small hostel as a result of Silva's negligence. She is deeply disappointed in Silva, who is now forced to find shelter in the apartment of his trainee lawyer Marcia.

Episode 4 Fire Devil

A young man from a neighboring rehabilitation camp dies in a forest fire in the vicinity of Lisbon. The camp is run by the social worker Gonçalo Postiga, an old friend of Silva. One of the young people there comes under overwhelming suspicion of arson and murder. At Postiga's request, Silva will defend the suspect.

In the field of tension between arson suspects, wind energy companies and a number of personal threats from various parties involved, Silva and his assistant Marcia uncover the surprising truth. In addition, his daughter, who unexpectedly appeared in Lisbon, weighs on Silva's mind, who is also trying to get his former landlady Dona Beatriz a replacement for her lost pension.

The production company Polyphon Pictures produced the crime series for ARD Degeto . The shooting of the first episodes took place in September / October 2016 and 2017 in Lisbon. The Lisbon crime thriller joins the traditional Thursday crime series of ARD.

The cooperation between German and Portuguese actors was easy despite the three languages ​​spoken on the film sets (German, Portuguese and English as the common language of communication). The two German main actors were not only impressed by the calm atmosphere and the light in the city, but also by the Portuguese supporting actors and the problem-free and cordial atmosphere between all actors. The choice of Lisbon as the location for a new Thursday crime series also takes into account the city's rapidly increasing tourist importance.

The first episode of the Lisbon crime thriller won the day in terms of audience ratings. 5.77 million viewers (17.9% market share) saw the episode on April 5, 2018.

The critics praised the beautiful pictures and successful tracking shots, but criticized in part that too little space was given to the charm and sights of Lisbon and that Lisbon was not a credible place for violent criminal cases. The entangled, but in the end comparatively simple case, was also criticized in part. The acting, like the camerawork, received consistent praise.

The FAZ critic Heike Hupertz praised the camera work and the film composers, but complained about the "narrated Degeto routine" of the scriptwriters and the director of the first episode.
