With the help of the group, he and a Soviet agent named Slade manage to escape. You are being held in a secret house in Ireland.
In London, MacKintosh informs his friend, MP Sir George Wheeler, of his plan. In truth, Wheeler is the head of the escape aid organization. Shortly afterwards, MacKintosh is run over by a car. Rearden is tortured, but manages to escape from the country house.
Rearden is now on his own and only Mrs. Smith, who turns out to be the daughter of MacKintosh, is of help to him. Together they go to Malta to put Wheeler there. Wheeler hid Slade on his yacht. Rearden calls the police, while Wheeler takes over Mrs. Smith. Reluctantly and unsuccessfully, the police searched the yacht. Rearden is able to flee again.
The exchange, safe conduct for Wheeler and Slade against the life of Mrs. Smith, takes place in a church. Rearden, after a moment's hesitation, agrees. But when Wheeler and Slade walk away, they are brutally shot by Mrs. Smith. Rearden and Mrs. Smith have nothing in common anymore. They go their separate ways.
criticism
" The Mackintosh man seems to have been made by a group of people who had no sympathy or understanding for spy films."
"Intelligently built and excitingly staged political thriller."
“With his gripping staging, the old master John Huston draws the viewer into a confusing puzzle game: one wrong track follows the next. You can only follow the story if you pay attention. A top-class political thriller based on a script by action specialist Walter Hill. "
