The story of an evening is a talk show of the NDR . The first episode aired on January 2, 2015. The first five episodes were originally published under the name "Soul Kitchen", but later renamed.

Dirk Stermann is the host for the first five episodes . After that the hosts change and the number of guests varies between four and five.

At first glance, the guests have little in common and most of them don't know each other better. This is the first time you spend an evening together. There is no fixed schedule for the evening. Hosts and guests eat and drink together and ask each other questions. This results in conversations that are atypical for a talk show and sometimes very personal. After eating together, the location is changed several times.

During the episode, the guests introduce themselves and often refer to the conversation.
