The great myths (Original: Les grandes mythes ) is an animated documentary series from France about Greek mythology , which premiered on October 1, 2016 on Arte . The series by François Busnel, who also acts as the narrator, was produced by Arte France as well as Rosebud Productions and the animation studio Les Monstres and currently contains two seasons.
Seasons
The first season of 20 episodes, which tell Greek gods and heroes myths based on various sources by Greek and Roman authors, was created with the participation of the Île-de-France region and was first broadcast on Arte from October 1 to December 3, 2016 .
The second season of 10 episodes, which was created in collaboration with the Louvre , is entitled The Iliad and mainly tells of the Trojan War based on this Homeric epic . It aired from September 22 to October 20, 2019.

Season 2: The Iliad
The second season tells of the Trojan War, mainly based on the epic epic Homer , but also adds background from other sources. While the Iliad concludes with Hector's burial, after which the war continues, the last episode of the season also contains the story of the Trojan horse and the end of the war.

Tormented by Hephaestus' fire, the river releases Achilles. The gods fight each other and Achilles continues to kill Trojans. Priam lets survivors into the city. 22. Book: Hector and Achilles face each other in front of the walls, but Hector flees around the walls. Athena in the form of Deiphobus persuades him to surrender. In a duel, Achilles kills Hector, whose body he then drags around the city. 23rd book: Patroclus' body is burned at the stake, that of Hector is protected by Aphrodite and Apollon. 24th book: Zeus orders that Achilles should return Hector's body. The beach has been deserted by the Greeks, but there is a wooden horse. The skeptical Trojans are convinced by the captured Sinon that the Greeks have sailed away. They pull the horse into town and celebrate the victory. At night Sinon opens the horse, from which Greeks pour out. They slaughter the Trojans and take women prisoner. Menelaus takes Helena with him, Achilles saves Polyxena , but is killed by Paris. Zeus watches the cruelty of the people and the downfall of the city. Aeneas flees from this ; Odysseus also sets out to sail. |
Narrator and German version
In the French original, François Busnel takes over the narrator from the off. The German adaptation of the first season was done by Parabol Pictures, the translation by Sabine Kohlway and Anja Pettelkau is spoken by Bernd Reheuser . For the second season the German version was done by Studio 7 Synchron und Untertitel GmbH, the translation by Claudia Preuschoft is spoken by Thomas Balou Martin .
