action

The story of a family against the background of an increasingly threatening world situation. The sisters Laura and Cecilia are particularly in the spotlight.

2020: Laura describes from the off that she is in the southern Alps , outside of what is called civilization . To the south of it, the European Union has already collapsed, and the remaining countries of Central Europe have walled themselves in to protect themselves from the onslaught of African refugees . It is used by soldiers passed through the densely fortified border and sets out with a backpack on her arm, her son, on the way.

2012: Laura, her sister Cecilia and their friend Konstantin are students . The times are becoming more and more threatening, the 4th Gulf War over the Arab oil wells has begun. Konstantin and Cecilia take part in protests against the war. In the end, they are arrested and meet the French Vincent at the police station, who shares their convictions. They live with Laura together. Her brother Phillip still lives with his parents and is about to graduate from high school. The siblings suspect that Phillip is not their biological brother. Her father works as a management consultant in the energy industry. He picks up Cecilia and Konstantin from the police after they were arrested.

While a man yells at passers-by in the pedestrian zone to draw their attention to their destructive lifestyle, Laura takes refuge in a bookstore. There she meets Hans, a former employee of her father. They start a conversation and go out to eat together. Laura and Hans later spend a day in the forest watching birds, swimming and walking. In the evening, Hans reports that he is suffering from an incurable, progressive eye disease that could later lead to considerable loss of vision.

Vincent leads Konstantin and Cecilia to a meeting of a secret group, the "Black Storms". It is openly spoken of carrying out attacks in order to destroy society, and every member of the group must be ready for violence. Konstantin is enthusiastic about it and absolutely wants to participate. All members should live as inconspicuously as possible, with normal jobs and habits. Konstantin then becomes a management consultant in Paris, Cecilia runs a restaurant in Berlin. Cecilia misses Konstantin and looks jealously at her sister, who wants to move in with Hans.

At a family reunion, the parents announce that they are divorcing. A paternity test proves that Philip is actually a biological child of his parents. Philipp and Laura go for a walk. He reports that he has reported to the Bundeswehr.

Laura moved in with Hans. She tells him that she is pregnant. Spontaneously they drive to the Swiss mountains and spend the night in a lonely mountain hut that Hans had inherited. He talks about life getting more difficult and the war for resources expanding. Hans would therefore like to live permanently in the mountains, as a self-sufficiency with a solar cell on the roof. Laura categorically refuses because she wants to live in the city and do a PhD. Hans calms her down and confirms his love for her, no matter what.

Shortly afterwards they both want to get married, Hans and the wedding party are waiting for Laura in a church. On the way there she gets bleeding and labor. She comes to the hospital, where her child goes off and dies. The doctor finds out that a rare genetic predisposition was to blame. Laura can have children, but not from Hans. The wedding is canceled.

2016: While Laura is studying, the library is cleared during an emergency. A hacking attack on the Internet caused power cuts across the city. The "black storms" caused this attack and caused damage worldwide. Konstantin, who lives in Berlin again, makes contact with Laura. In the evening Konstantin meets Cecilia again. In their apartment they are planning a salmonella attack on a prominent restaurant guest. Konstantin and Laura go out together. When asked about this, Cecilia assures her sister that she doesn't care. Laura notices that Constantine has changed and is no longer full of worry and anger. Constantine replies that he has found his place. However, he wanted to know whether something had changed in Laura too.

At a meeting of the “black storms” it is planned that someone in police uniform will shoot the youngest possible participant during a demonstration. In order to randomly choose someone, Vincent and Konstantin give out lots. However, all tickets look the same, but only Cecilia admits to having drawn the “right” ticket. She is worried and unsure whether she can do what is asked. Constantine tells her that he has already killed many times when it was necessary. He says that if you want to abolish civilization, you can't do it without killing it. Actions like paralyzing the internet or salmonella poisoning are also far too harmless means. Konstantin says of Laura that she is the best civil disguise and the total opposite of anything that would interest him.

Laura and Konstantin go shopping together. However, there is almost nothing left to buy in the supermarket. Customers steal the few available items from each other's shopping cart. Afterwards, a security guard has to carry the shopping to the car. A large homeless camp has been built in front of Laura's house, and begging children live in the streets. They cook together and Laura seduces Konstantin.

During the demonstration, Cecilia and Konstantin face protesters disguised as police officers. When there is an argument, Cecilia stays behind. When Constantine comes to her, they are alone in front of a small group of demonstrators who immediately attack and beat them. When Cecilia is on the ground, she draws the gun and shoots a young woman. Then they can escape and go to their hiding place. Cecilia casts out Constantine.

Laura is back at the doctor. This surprised her that everything was okay despite a new pregnancy. She reports that she is no longer with the father of the first child. The doctor says that the rare genetic defect is now treatable. She meets her brother Philipp, who has received a new marching order. He asks her to come to a hotel. There they meet employees of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the MAD, who uncovered the double life of Constantine and his affiliation with the "black storms". Laura is to persuade Cecilia to testify, and she is offered a leniency program. Laura later tells Konstantin that she is pregnant. However, she doesn't want any further contact because she needs time to think.

Before Phillips says goodbye, her father throws a party. Drunk, Cecilia makes a scene to her sister and accuses her of having taken Konstantin out of her mind. Cecilia later fetches a prepared bomb from her apartment and arm it. She drives to her restaurant and deposits them there. Laura unexpectedly enters the restaurant to make up. Shortly before the explosion, Cecilia was able to push her sister into the kitchen to protect her. Immediately afterwards, there is an explosion, which Cecilia survives. Laura has her baby, after which she drives with her mother to her parents' house, which is now in a facility protected by security guards. The father's business partners confront him and demand that he testify against his daughter in court. Otherwise the firm would drop him. He says his daughter is killing people indiscriminately and his son is fighting a war, so he can't go back to the office anyway. Laura is allowed to visit Cecilia briefly in prison. Neither of them know where Constantine is.

2020: Laura walks with her baby through the border system of the entrance scene. She goes to the mountain hut where Hans lives with Albert, a former soldier from Africa. Next to the mountain hut, he has aviaries where he keeps falcons and owls. Although Hans is initially dismissive, he takes care of Laura. Later they approach again. Laura says that she came because she was thinking about who else means something to her in life. She admits she did everything wrong.

As they eat together one evening, they hear the noise of a car. Constantine has come, with Vincent, who was killed, in the passenger seat. Constantine is on the run, he wants to see his son and pick up his family. Laura doesn't want to come with me. He then shoots Hans down and wants to forcibly take Laura and her child away. He hastily gathers up some supplies and sets the hut on fire. When he wants to drive off, he is killed by Albert, who was hiding in the car. Laura drives the seriously injured Hans to the border.

Reviews

“Laura's… struggle for a happy life is still the truest pursuit in this film, which is teeming with over-ambitious characters. To imagine the future threatening may be a human need; However, it does not bring any knowledge here. "

- David Steinit, Süddeutsche Zeitung , November 4, 2010 Happiness is a mistake.

"At first glance, this negative utopia may seem far-fetched, but Kraume achieves a high level of plausibility in the condensation of the life-world circumstances of its protagonists."

The coming days is without a doubt one of the most ambitious German film projects in recent years and some will find it all terribly overloaded, or simply more ambitious than a German film deserves. But PT Anderson's Magnolia and Alfonso [sic] Cuaron's Children of Men , who noticeably inspired this film, weren't blamed for anything like that. "

“The worst film with the best cast. Nor will it be a sonata from Hänschen Klein if you let Lang Lang play it for you on the piano. "

- Daniel Kothenschulte, Frankfurter Rundschau , November 3, 2010 [1]
