Dirk W. Oetting

Dirk Walther Oetting (* 27. November 1938 in Berlin , † 21st March 2020 in Hannover ) was a German lawyer , officer ( Brigadier ret. ) And publicist .

Life

Military service and studies

After graduating from high school in 1958 in Hanover, Oetting joined the Mountain Infantry Battalion 232 in Bischofswiesen as a reserve officer candidate.

From 1959 to 1964 he studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the University of Hamburg . In 1960 he joined the compulsory student union Corps Albertina in Hamburg . In 1964 he passed the first state examination. After that, he was an assistant and in 1966 at Werner Weber at the Law Faculty of the University of Göttingen with a thesis on the right of appeal of the soldiers to Dr. jur. PhD.

In 1966 he passed the entrance examination at the Mountain Infantry Battalion 232 in Bischofswiesen and rejoined the Bundeswehr as a captain . 1966/67 he attended Army Officer School III in Munich. Afterwards he was company commander in the Mountain Infantry Battalion 221 in Mittenwald.

From 1970 to 1973 he was assistant P II 1 in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn. In 1973/74 he completed a course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In 1974 he was G1 of the 1st Mountain Division in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From 1977 to 1979 he was in command of the Mountain Infantry Battalion 232 in Bischofswiesen. In 1979 he became a lecturer at the FüAkBw. From 1981 to 1984 he was division manager at the Inner Guidance Center (ZInFü) in Koblenz. In 1984 he became commander of teaching group C at the Army Officers School (OSH) in Hanover and in 1990 head of the department at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . From 1992 to 1994 he was in command of the Defense District Command (VBK) 61 in Augsburg and Donauwörth.

From 1994 to 1999 he was in command of Panzer Grenadier Brigade 1 and Defense District Command (VBK) 20 in Hildesheim. In 1999 he was retired.

Journalism

During his activity as an officer he published a. a. a textbook and explanatory book for military complaints regulations (WBO). He also analyzed military leadership concepts in the context of organizational studies. After his retirement he pursued military history studies. He was also the author of several specialist articles, including a. in the new magazine for defense technology .
