Dorit Winzens-Bredernitz

Dorit Winzens-Bredernitz (signed Dorit Winzens), (born October 19, 1931 in Berlin-Köpenick ) is a German painter , graphic artist and illustrator .

Life

After childhood and school in Köpenick, she began her studies in 1947 at the University of Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee with Ernst Rudolf Vogenauer and Willem Hölter . In 1950 she moved to the Berlin University of the Arts for political reasons . In 1951 she received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . Three years later, in 1953, moved to Berlin-Friedenau , West Berlin, due to the uprising on June 17th . In 1955 she finished her studies as a master class student with Friedrich Stabenau .

Immediately after completing her studies, she began working as a graphic designer for the Der Tagesspiegel publishing house until 1960. In 1959 she married Hans Bredernitz and in 1960 she moved to Munich. The birth of the two children in 1960 and 1961 led to a two-year artistic break.

In 1962 she joined the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK) in Munich . Winzens-Bredernitz now lives as a freelance artist in Munich.

Honors

  • 1955: Awarded by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels for "One of the most beautiful books of 1955" (first copy in the possession of the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich (inventory no. 260964)) for the book Gitagovinda (The Indian Song of Songs)
  • 1987 Second prize “Jörg Scherkamp Prize” for fine arts
  • 2018 Water Lily Prize
