Douglas Allan "Doug" Zmolek (born November 3, 1970 in Rochester , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 481 games for the San Jose Sharks , Dallas Stars , Los Angeles between 1989 and 2001, among other things Kings and Chicago Blackhawks has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .

Career

Zmolek initially played for three years from 1989 to 1992 at the University of Minnesota in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Already at the beginning of his college career, the American was selected in the first round in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in seventh position by the Minnesota North Stars , but was selected in the summer of 1991 by the newly founded San Jose Sharks in the NHL Dispersal Draft in Claimed.

At the beginning of the 1992/93 season , Zmolek was in the Sharks' NHL squad for the first time and stayed there until March 1994, before he was given a draft right to the Dallas Stars together with Mike Lalor for Ulf Dahlén and a draft . There the defender also played two seasons, but was transferred back to the US West Coast to the Los Angeles Kings in February 1996 . In return, Darryl Sydor moved to Dallas. Zmolek did not stay at home in Los Angeles for long either, as after a year and a half, in September 1998, he had to change clubs again. This time he was given up for a draft pick to the Chicago Blackhawks . After two seasons with the Blackhawks, he signed a contract with the Chicago Wolves in the International Hockey League during the 2000/01 season for which he only played two games. Then he ended his career.

International

At the international level, Zmolek represented his home country at the 1990 Junior World Cup in Finland . He finished seventh with the U20 national team of the United States and thus barely prevented relegation. The defender prepared a goal in seven tournament appearances.
