Dubrauke , Dubrawka in Upper Sorbian ? / i , is a village in the east of the Saxon district of Bautzen near the border with the district of Görlitz . It belongs to Upper Lusatia and has belonged to the Malschwitz municipality since the municipal reform in 1994 . The place is part of the official Sorbian settlement area . Audio file / audio sample

The German place name is derived from the Sorbian name. Dubrawa is the oak forest , Dubrawka originally the name for the stream coming out of the forest, which was then carried over to the place.

The place is 16 km northeast of Bautzen in a hilly landscape at 152  m above sea level. NN, as well as at the Dubrauke creek of the same name . It is surrounded by forest on three sides - north, east and south. In the west and south-west a ridge rises up to 207  m . Its highest point is the Schafberg. Behind it is the neighboring town of Baruth . To the east of Dubrauke there are two fish ponds. Closer to the place is the smaller Brettmühlteich , further away is the Kobanteich . The Hohe Dubrau rises in the northeast . The Dubrauker Horken nature reserve is also located there .

Dubrauke is an advanced Angersdorf in V-shape, with the old village green is in the eastern part. The settlement structure arises from the corridor . At the north-western end of the village there is a large four-sided courtyard.

history

The place is first mentioned in 1472 as Dubrawca .

After the Congress of Vienna , the Prussian- Saxon state border ran through the forest one kilometer east of Dubrauke from 1815 to 1945. The neighboring town of Groß Saubernitz already belonged to the Prussian province of Silesia . In 1854 there were also some Dubrauk residents among the 558 Sorbian emigrants who left Europe under the leadership of Pastor Jan Kilian and established the Sorbian settlement of Serbin in Texas.

Until July 1, 1950, Dubrauke was an independent rural community, then it was first incorporated into Baruth and on January 1, 1994 reclassified to Malschwitz.

The last population data for the municipality Dubrauke give 309 inhabitants for 1946. In 1890 the place had 219 inhabitants. The population has decreased slightly since reunification.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 261 in the 1880s; 239 of them were Sorbs (92%) and 22 were Germans.

Dubrauke has been parish in Baruth since the 16th century. The last information on religious affiliation comes from 1925. At that time, 261 of the 263 inhabitants were Evangelical Lutheran (99%).

State road 110 ( Hochkirch - Kleinsaubernitz ) runs west of the village. Local roads connect Dubrauke with Baruth (2 km) and Kleinsaubernitz (4 km). The forest road to Weigersdorf is open to road traffic.
