The Ducati Paso is a motorcycle model from the Italian manufacturer Ducati and was built from 1986 to 1992.

The fully faired motorcycle was presented at EICMA in 1985 with the slogan “ Il nostro passato ha un grande futuro ” (Our past has a great future) .

Massimo Tamburini dedicated the name of the motorcycle to his fatally injured friend and racing driver Renzo Pasolini , whose nickname was "Paso". Pasolini was killed in a racing accident on May 20, 1973 in Monza .

The Paso has a full cladding that extends almost completely over the deeply drawn-down side parts to the rear and almost completely covers the vehicle technology. The cladding front without a transparent acrylic glass pane was particularly unusual . The shape was highly controversial among fans of the brand (“plastic bomber”).

The frame was made of chrome-molybdenum-steel square tubes and it was the first production motorcycle from Ducati, the suspension of the rear wheel was designed progressively over a central spring strut with an aluminum swing arm. The motorcycle has 16-inch wheels with 13 and 16 cm wide radial tires as well as a dashboard box with orange pointers and engine ventilation slots, as they were popular at the same time on the Ferrari Testarossa .

The Paso engine came from the Ducati 750 F1 , but had a new rear cylinder head with swapped inlet and outlet openings so that the inlet ports of both cylinder heads faced each other. This new arrangement at Ducati, which enabled a large central airbox to reduce the intake noise, was used in future on all newly developed Ducati. However, the electronics and the mechanical Weber carburettors were problematic from the start.

The first version of the Paso, the 750 Paso, had 72.5 PS (64 PS), 748 cm³ displacement, at 7800 min −1 and it reached 210 km / h.

The 906 Paso from 1989 was water-cooled. With 904 cc engine with 88 PS (79 hp) at 8000 rpm -1 , it reached a top speed of 220 km / h. The lower part of the cladding has now been colored white.

It wasn't until 1991 that the 907i.e. (Iniezione Elettronica) followed, the Paso got a complete, electronic Weber- Marelli IAW 043 injection system. The smaller 16 "wheels were exchanged for 17-inch wheels. The power and top speed were now 90 PS (79 PS) and 230 km / h (220 km / h). The name" Paso "was dropped on the 907i.e and at the same time the two-tone paintwork.

The values in brackets are the entries in the German vehicle registration documents, although this may differ slightly from the federal state to be issued. In total, a little over 7,000 vehicles were produced between 1986 and 1992.
