The Ducati 750SS is a motorcycle model from the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati .

This motorcycle was based on the 750- cc -Rennmaschine, with the Paul Smart 1972, the 200-mile race at Imola won. From the previous road machine 750GT, a Sports Tourer , the 750SS distinguished by the forced control of the valve train , better brakes , the look and the most careful installation in the racing department.

After the legendary double victory in Imola, it was decided to produce a street version of the racing machine in small series. The 750SS were handcrafted by the mechanics in the racing department; 8 hours were estimated to assemble an engine. In 1973 and 1974, 411 examples were built with the original, on the 750GT-based, engine with round housing covers. Later the production with the angular engine , based on that of the 860GT, but with 750 cm³ displacement , continued. Most of the copies were bought by private racing drivers and converted into racing machines. Worldwide successes could be achieved with the 750SS.

The motorcycle develops 65  HP on the rear wheel at an engine speed of 8500 rpm. The compression is 9.8: 1. The valve angle is 80 °, which goes back to the cylinder head of the 100 Gran Sport, called Marianna. The large oil pan holds 5  liters . There were needle bearings for installation, which are considered very sensitive. The cylinder angle is 90 °, which means that the engine has very little vibration. There were large 40 mm Dell'Orto - carburetor used have as an air filter only coarse screens in front of the conical inlet funnels. The five-speed gearbox is shifted from the right.

The normal tubular steel frame was used. In this frame, the engine is also supporting.

The 750SS has half casing, a tank and a seat hump made of GRP . The frame is painted turquoise, like the lower half of the half cladding. The other part of the casing, the mudguard, the tank and the seat hump are white-silver. The appearance (except for the colors) was later adopted for the 900SS .

Today 750SS series and not converted into racing machines are very rare and therefore have a great collector's value .
