successor Ducati Multistrada 1200

Ducati Multistrada is the name of a range of sporty touring motorcycles that feature stylistic elements from travel enduros. It was first presented as a study in autumn 2001 at the EICMA in Milan as the fifth model series from Ducati (after Monster (naked bike), Desmosedici (supersport), Panigale (superbike), sport touring). From the 2010 model year, the model series was heavily revised.

Model history

First series

The first series version with air-cooled two-valve engines celebrated its premiere in September 2002 at the IFMA in Munich and has been delivered to customers since March 2003.

Traditionally built with a tubular space frame made of ALS 450 steel tubes, upside-down fork , aluminum single-sided swing arm ( 620 with steel double-sided swing arm) with single strut and rear silencers. The Ducati designer at the time, Pierre Terblanche, designed a slim motorcycle with a 20-liter tank that extends under the seat and a half-fairing that steers in the upper part. Long suspension travel (165 mm at the front, 140 mm at the rear), an upright seating position and more profiled tires ( Pirelli Scorpion Sync. ) Should enable comfortable driving even on less well-developed roads.

A wide range of accessories is available, either for sporty or more touring use.

In 2005, Ducati added the 1000S DS (with Öhlins chassis and carbon fiber fairing parts) and 620, which were available in red and black, to the series.

Up to the 2006 model year, two air / oil-cooled 90 ° V-engines were used, both two-valve engines with Marelli injection and an uncontrolled catalytic converter (Euro II):

  • 1000 DS and 1000s DS : 992 cm³ (94 mm bore × 71.5 mm stroke), double ignition, 61 kW (84 PS), 84 Nm
  • 620 and 620 Dark : 618 cm³ (80 mm bore × 61.5 mm stroke), 46 kW (63 HP), 56 Nm

In the 2007 model year there was an 1100 engine, which has more torque and power as well as a regulated catalytic converter with a lambda probe. In addition, the engine was switched from dry to oil bath clutch for noise reasons. In the basic version, the spring elements no longer come from SHOWA , but from Marzocchi and Sachs , and in the S version from Öhlins . Thanks to a new sensor, the fuel gauge should now show more precise values.

Second series

The second series has been completely revised. It had a liquid-cooled four-valve engine with a capacity of 1200 cm³ and 110 kW (150 hp), the former part of the fairing that was fixed to the handlebars was abandoned in favor of a fairing fixed to the frame.
