The Ebenhof south of the Ehenfeld district in the district of the same name

Ebenhof is a district of the town of Hirschau in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria .

origin of the name

In 1601 a Hof uff der Eben is mentioned, 1630 Pinhoff, 1661 Pünhof uff der Eben, 1727 Pünhof or Eben, 1773 Pünhof auf der Eben, 1792 and 1842 Eben. The name Ebenhof appears for the first time in 1867.

The older name is probably Pünhof, although it can only be proven later. Pünhof goes back to a personal name Puno. The name Ebenhof is to be understood as a courtyard on the plain and describes the location of the Ebenhof.

Hansmirtl Marterl

The listed Hansmirtl Marterl is on the AS 18 district road from Ebenhof approx. 150 m in the direction of Ehenfeld on the right-hand side of the road. The Marterl consists of an 85 cm high cast iron cross and an iron body. The cross stands on a 1.36 m high, 40 cm wide and 33 cm deep sandstone in which there is a picture niche. The holy trinity is depicted. The letter JW for Josef Windisch and the year 1902 are carved into the sandstone.

There are two stories about the reasons for the establishment of the Marterl. One story goes that the farmer Josef Windisch was struck by lightning while mowing the grass. The other story tells of a serious illness in the old Hansmirtl. A doctor prophesied that he would no longer make the way to Hirschau. As a thank you for still making it, he had the Marterl built.

Sandstone shrine from 1899

Bogner Marterl

The Marterl, made of Seugaster sandstone and under monument protection , is located on the AS 18 district road from Ebenhof about 100 m in the direction of Hirschau. The height of the Marterl is 1.87 m, the width 43 cm and the depth 39 cm. In the niche there is a praying angel painted on sheet metal. The letters GB for Georg Bogner and the year 1899 are notched into the sandstone.

Georg Bogner from Hummelmühle had been to Hirschau and had drunk too much there. With a sleigh full of grain, he made his way home at night. In the process, he and his sledge fell over. As a thank you for surviving the accident unscathed, he had this wayside shrine built.

Field cross

There is a field cross at AS 18 opposite the Ebenhof. The field cross was designed by the carpenter Johann Seibold from Kindlas in the style of the Tyrolean cross. The body comes from Oberammergau.

There are also two stories about the creation of this cross. One story goes that Ebenhofbauer Johann Leißl had this cross built. Before he went to the First World War , he vowed to put up a cross if he should return safely from the war. When he returned home in 1919, he had this cross erected. Another tradition says that the cross was erected in memory of the death of two children from the Ebenhof. Johann died on February 6, 1922 at the age of nine while felling wood, Margarethe drowned on May 29, 1924 at the age of five.
