Burgstall is a village and a district of the city of Hirschau in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria .
origin of the name
The place of a former castle is called the Burgstall . It does not always have to be a knight's castle, it can also have been a prehistoric or medieval refuge or earth castle .
Around 1285 Burgstall was mentioned as the "Purchstal" belonging to the Vilseck Office , and in 1326 also as the "Purchstal", but belonging to the Hahnbach Office . The spelling "Burgstall" appeared as early as 1444 (Vogtei Hahnbach). Before the current name Burgstall finally became naturalized, the place was mentioned in 1569 as "Purgkhstall" (Vogtei Hahnbach), in 1647 as "Purgstall" and in 1773 as "Purkstall" (in each case Landrichteramt Amberg).
history
The assumption that there used to be a fortification in the place was confirmed by aerial photo archeology .
Burgstall belonged to the municipality of Mimbach until it was dissolved on January 1, 1972 and partly incorporated (with the districts of Hirschau and Krondorf ) into Hirschau.
