Edition headwind

Edition Gegenwind is the name of a label that was introduced in 2010 and is used by a community of authors for the self-publication of new editions of out-of-print book titles .
Beginnings
The Gegenwind edition was founded by Ulrich Karger , who in 2010 was the first to publish a collection of his a. a. published fairy tales and parables in multiple anthologies published by the Hamburg-based Metta-Kinau-Verlag . At the same time as this publication, he set up his own homepage for Edition Gegenwind and only invited “professional authors” to use this label free of charge. Several authors accepted this invitation from 2011 , who together with him now also form a loose author community. ( See section: Author community )
Conception of the label partnership
Independent production
The authors represented in Edition Gegenwind publish their new editions, some of which are illustrated by illustrators, as pocket or hardcover books and as e-books . You are responsible for using self -publishing platforms such as Books on Demand , CreateSpace , Epubli and Neobooks for these self-publications .
To label users and edition program
The label Edition Gegenwind stands out from the countless self-publications of the " Vanity Publishers " in that only titles are identified with this label whose authors have already been published in regular publishers and references such as reviews by recognized literary critics and / or awards or literary prizes can refer.
At the same time, however, it also marks an offensive “commitment” to self-publication by such excellent authors who no longer want to submit to the market mechanisms of their publishers and their calculation basis for removing titles from the publisher's programs. Because out of print book titles mean for them not only a loss of royalties , but also disguise z. B. also the possibility to design readings with them .
The book publications in Edition Gegenwind focus on new editions of previously out of print book titles. In addition, some first releases have already been presented. There is no programmatic restriction to individual genres or genres. Currently (as of 2013), however, the edition mainly presents fiction titles and books for children and young people .
To marketing
Every author remains responsible for the usual promotion of an individual title, for example in the literature editors for reviews. In addition, the Gegenwind edition relies on joint marketing through effective advertising networking.
Thus, all authors will be presented on the website of Edition headwinds and their book titles may on the cover in and in the body of Garamond compound word mark "Edition headwinds" in connection with the introduced since 2012 Logo use. In return, all authors undertake to refer to the edition titles of the other authors on the last page of their edition. In addition, a link to the homepage of Edition Gegenwind is set on the authors' homepage for the references to their titles published under the label .

From the named “active” authors, a loose community of authors has meanwhile formed, which can already refer to joint readings and the publication of two anthologies, which at the time of publication were made with contributions from all the authors of the Gegenwind edition. There will be a joint vote on further new entries to this author community.
