Edward Joseph Adams
Edward Joseph Adams (born August 24, 1944 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American Roman Catholic clergyman, archbishop and diplomat emeritus of the Holy See .
biography
Adams was ordained a priest on May 16, 1970 by Cardinal John Joseph Krol and subsequently served as a priest in his native Philadelphia. He later entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See.
On August 24, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh and titular Archbishop pro hac vice of Scala . He received his episcopal ordination from Cardinal State Secretary Angelo Sodano on October 23, 1996; Co- consecrators were Anthony Joseph Cardinal Bevilacqua , Archbishop of Philadelphia , and John Patrick Cardinal Foley , President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications .
On August 22, 2002, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Zimbabwe , before he became Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines on September 3, 2007 . He held this office until February 22, 2011 and then took on the role of Apostolic Nuncio in Greece. His successor as Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines was on May 10, 2011 Giuseppe Pinto , the previous Apostolic Nuncio in Chile .
Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Great Britain on April 8, 2017. After reaching the age limit of 75 years in 2019, Pope Francis accepted the resignation from the office of nuncio on January 31, 2020.
