Éider Orlando Arévalo Truque (born March 9, 1993 in Pitalito , Departamento del Huila ) is a Colombian walker . In 2017 he became world champion over the 20 km distance.

Athletic career

Éider Arévalo first appeared in 2009 at the age of 16 at national youth championships, where he won silver over the 10 km distance in the U18 age group. In 2010 he qualified for the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, where he was disqualified in the 10 km race. In 2011 he won the gold medal over 20 km at the U20 Pan American Championships and the U20 South American Championships in his Colombian homeland. In 39: 56.01 min he also set a personal best in Medellín.

In 2012 he won the gold medal in 40: 09.74 minutes at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona. He also took part in races over double the distance for the first time in 2012. Over this double distance, he qualified for the Olympic Games in London at the age of 19 . There he ran in 1:22:00 h on the 20th place. In 2013 he won silver at the South American Championships in Cartagena. At the World Championships in Moscow, he could not finish the race.

In 2014 Arévalo won gold at the South American Games in Santiago de Chile. In 2015 he finished seventh in 1:21:13 h at the World Championships in Beijing. At the Pan American Games in Toronto, he was fifth. In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games for the second time. There he finished 15th in 1:21:36 h.

In 2017 he achieved his greatest sporting success to date with the world title from London . His winning time of 1:18:53 h meant not only a significant improvement in his personal best, but also a Colombian record. He was subsequently unable to build on that time. At the Pan American Games and the South American Championships 2019 in Lima, he could not finish the races.
