Due to the proximity to Lake Neusiedl , the district is characterized by tourism. Mörbisch and St. Margarethen are important festival locations. The free city and statutory city of Eisenstadt , as the state capital, is the center of political administration both in the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district and in the province of Burgenland.
