The Elsterwerdaer Square is a square in Berlin district Biesdorf of Marzahn-Hellersdorf . It is located on Köpenicker Straße and near the federal highways B 1 and B 5 , which are on the same route , and is close to the Biesdorf greenery . It is named after the Brandenburg town of Elsterwerda . Bears the name of the place since 9 November 1926 before he was called Place C .
Location and environment
The L-shaped Elsterwerdaer Platz is located in the center of the urban development area Biesdorf-Süd, planned since 1993, under construction since 1997 and only partially completed . In addition to commercial and leisure facilities, it will also offer apartments for 13,500 residents. The 142 hectares of the development area south-east of Elsterwerdaer Platz belonged to the NVA during the GDR era . After the political change , they initially became a wasteland .
In July 2003, the Biesdorf Center was opened in the north and west of the square, a 25,000 m² shopping center. The construction costs amounted to 220 million euros. It consists of two 150-meter-long two-storey building complexes: the first complex contains a branch of the Kaufland retail chain and smaller shops, the second complex consists of several larger shops (including the largest Intersport branch in Berlin).
The agapia health center Polimedica , which opened in 2007, is located directly opposite the Biesdorf Center on the south side of the square. The modern specialist and prevention center is an essential part of outpatient health care in Biesdorf and cares for over 100,000 patients annually. On 9,500 m² of floor space, it offers 15 specialist practices, an outpatient operating theater center and CenDenta, the largest private dental clinic in the eastern part of the city . The Bürgeramt Biesdorf has also been housed in the health center since 2007 .
