Emil Karl Heinrich Freiherr von Schleinitz (born March 15, 1800 in Berlin , † March 29, 1885 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Emil was a member of the Barons von Schleinitz . His parents were Baron Carl Anton Wilhelm von Schleinitz (1751–1807) and Friederike, nee Freiin von Rosenberg-Gruszczynska (1772–1845). The Brunswick Minister of State Karl Ferdinand Freiherr von Schleinitz (1756–1837) was his uncle. The also Brunswick Minister of State Wilhelm von Schleinitz (1794-1856) and the Prussian district president Julius von Schleinitz (1806-1865) were his cousins. The Prussian major general Gustav Freiherr von Schleinitz (1785-1858) was his older brother.

He married Pauline Eck (1800–1869) in Berlin in 1832, with whom he had the daughters Johanna (* 1834), Marie (* 1837) and Martha (* 1846).

Career

Schleinitz began his career in the Prussian army in 1815 as a grenadier in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment . He was promoted to Portepeefähnrich in 1817 and to Second Lieutenant in 1818 , before he was assigned to the General War School for the years 1824 to 1827 . After he had received his promotion to prime lieutenant in 1829 , he was commanded as a teacher to the cadet house in Potsdam in 1830 . He was released from this command in 1835 and rose to captain and company commander in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment in 1838 . With his promotion to major in 1847, he was also 2nd in command of the 1st Battalion (Berlin) of the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment. He then took part in the suppression of the March Revolution in Berlin , the uprising in Westphalia and the Baden Revolution in 1848/1849 . In recognition of his achievement, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. In 1851 he became the commandant of Küstrin and in the same year he was placed à la suite of the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment. Schleinitz was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1853 and received character as a colonel in 1861 and the Order of the Red Eagle III in 1862. Class with bow and swords on the ring.
