action
Inspector Peter Höllbacher is pretty much finished with his life after a burnout after the vain public prosecutor Nicoletti had given him a lot and let him run into the open knife. Höllbacher had falsely accused Pastor Schober of abuse in front of the camera after Nicoletti had encouraged him to do so. Schober commits suicide by hanging. Höllbacher blames himself for his death and, frustrated, retires to a quiet post in his home town of Merano, where he lives in his late mother's old tailoring workshop and meets with his old school friend Verginer. Verginer tells Höllbacher, among other things, that the family had to lock their castle hotel.
After bank director Karl Überweger was shot dead on the street in Merano , commissioner Thaler Höllbacher asked for help, he should support her with his experience in the investigation. Höllbacher initially refuses, only when he learns that his archenemy public prosecutor Nicoletti has taken over the case does his interest arise. The bank received threats by e-mail, and the senders called for the suspension of business with Iraq, including financing weapons deliveries. Nicoletti therefore suspects a terrorist background. Höllbacher learns from the chambermaid, Lediana, that Überweger met regularly in the hotel with the chairman of the bank, Eva Greiner, with whom he had an affair. Soon after, Greiner was also murdered.
With the help of his assistant Lois Gostner, Höllbacher locates a third murder case in the files, in which the victim Baron Hubert von Greiffenstein was also shot in the face. The case was closed as a hunting accident. Höllbacher suspects a serial killer as the perpetrator and fears further victims. Greiffenstein was Verginer's neighbor, who wanted to build a new hotel and needed a plot of land from Greiffenstein. Greiffenstein initially agreed, but at the last moment withdrew to buy the castle hotel and build it himself.
Lediana tells Höllbacher that Verginer gave her money for her room card to gain access to Greiner's room. Höllbacher suspects Verginer of the triple murder, Thaler does not want to believe him. Nicoletti had previously suspended him after Höllbacher had presented him at a press conference. He forbids any further investigation and believes that he has already found the culprit. The inspector fears that Silvia von Spiegelberg, with whom Verginer had a relationship, could be the next victim. Soon after, Nicoletti is shot.
Höllbacher finally finds the decayed corpses of Verginer's parents in Verginer's apartment, as well as a folder with the label Final Settlement . It contains portraits of Verginer's victims. Verginer evades arrest by suicide.

Reviews
Ronald Pohl found on DerStandard.at : "Palfrader articulates such a flawless South Tyrolean style , as if he had a handful of Alpine dolomites in his mouth day in and day out." What would definitely win over this country thriller was his will for the psychogram . Apart from the lack of subtitles, those involved would deliver excellent crime novels.
Tilmann P. Gangloff judged: "Even if this thriller had nothing else to offer: The scenes with Robert Palfrader and Tobias Moretti are great acting." There are a number of reasons that would make the film a special thriller, but this one The greatest attraction of the film would be the contrast between these two men. Harald Windisch is no less worth seeing as the third member of the group.
