Köllerbach is a district of Püttlingen in the Saarland regional association Saarbrücken and has about 8,000 inhabitants.

Köllerbach is located in the Köllertal , which is traversed by the Köllerbach , a right tributary of the Saar . The place is located immediately north of Püttlingen and borders directly on Riegelsberg in the east .
Local division
Köllerbach is divided into the districts Engelfangen, Etzenhofen, Herchenbach, Kölln, Rittenhofen and Sellerbach.
Before the Thirty Years' War, the district of Rittenhofen was the largest of the Köllerbach districts with eleven households. In addition to agriculture, tax lists mention wool weaving mills. After the attack by Croatian mercenaries in 1635 in the service of the emperor, the place was completely depopulated. Resettlement began in 1664 and in 1758 there were six households.
The coal mining in the district of Rittenhofen is mentioned in accounts of the Bucherbach office from 1477 ("three Frohner hant Kolen dug to Ritenhoven"). In the book Das Köllertal told by Pastor Karl Rug (* October 5, 1901, † June 19, 1985) is on page 139 a map of the Köllerbacher ban around the year 1758. There the coal mine (the Kohlgrub) in the district of Rittenhofen is drawn . This was at the exit of Rittenhofen (today's Sprengerstrasse) in the direction of Elm / Sprengen, a district of Schwalbach (Saar). From there, a tunnel is said to have been driven across Rittenhofen in the direction of Roßrücke to the Herrchenbacher Bann. This pit changed hands several times. However, until 1770 the coal was mainly used for burning lime and thus for fertilizing the fields.
In Etzenhofen the Röchling'schen Eisen- und Stahlwerke maintained a company labor education camp (AEL) for foreign forced laborers in 1943/44 .

On April 1, 1933, Köllerbach was formed as an amalgamation of the communities Engelfangen, Etzenhofen, Herchenbach, Kölln, Rittenhofen and Sellerbach / Straßen. From April 1, 1948, the municipality of Köllerbach, which until then belonged to the Riegelsberg office (now the mayor's office of Sellerbach), was independent until it was incorporated into the city of Püttlingen on January 1, 1974 as part of the administrative reform of the Saarland , which is still reflected today in the different telephone prefixes reflects: Köllerbach has the area code of Heusweiler (06806), while Püttlingen, to which it belongs today, has the Völklingen area code (06898). The last mayor of the independent community of Köllerbach was Matthias Nickels.

There are three parishes in Köllerbach , one Protestant and two Catholic . The area of the Riegelsberg district of Walpershofen also belongs to the Catholic parish Herz-Jesu . The Protestant parish includes the Martinskirche, the catholic parish includes the parish church Herz-Jesu, the meeting church (in Engelfangen), the Peter and Paul church (Walpershofen) and the Wendalinus chapel (Etzenhofen). In Köllerbach-Engelfangen there is also another St. Martin's Church, in which a congregation of Catholic traditionalists celebrates Tridentine masses in Latin .

Culture and sights
Buildings
The Romanesque Martinskirche is located in Kölln and was first mentioned in a document in 1223. However, parts of the foundations and relics of Frankish graves indicate that the church dates back to the 7th / 8th centuries. Century, making it one of the oldest churches in Saarland . It was probably elevated to a parish church around 900. In 1575 the county of Saarbrücken - and thus also the Köllertal - adopted the Evangelical Lutheran denomination. From 1697 to 1899 the church was used as a simultaneous church by the Protestant and Catholic population .
The Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche was built in neo-Gothic style and completed in 1899. It is also located in the Kölln district.
The Wendalinus Chapel was consecrated in 1873 and built as a thank you for being spared the rinderpest that broke out in 1866.
Between the villages of Kölln and Engelfangen are the ruins of a moated castle, the " Burg Bucherbach ", which was first mentioned in 1326. The castle was built by the Counts of Saarbrücken to protect the Köllertal, the “granary of the county” ( rye and oats ). In 1629 it was transferred to Georg Philipp von Piesport as a fief. In 1660 Ludwig von Piesport became a feudal lord. After his death in 1684 no other liege lord is known.

The watchmaker's house is located in Engelfanger Strasse and houses a watch museum .

The Pfarrer-Rug-Park is to the north of the Martinskirche .
Sports
The place is known nationwide through the KSV AE Köllerbach , a wrestling club whose first team has already won several German championships and successfully defended this title in the 2007/2008 and 2008/09 seasons after winning it in the 2006/07 season (as of January 2009) .
Regular events
The nationally known rock festival “ Rocco del Schlacko ” has been taking place since 1999, and since 2004 in the Köllerbach area. In 2004 and 2005, the Köllner Platz in the center of Köllerbach was the venue. The Rocco del Schlacko has been taking place on the festival grounds of the Köllerbach district of Herchenbach, the so-called Sauwasen , since 2006 and has been extended to two days, and since 2010 three days, and the option of camping.
