Enrico Stolzenburg

Enrico Stolzenburg (* 1973 in East Berlin ) is a German theater director , sound artist and professor at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Live and act

Stolzenburg grew up in a German-Chilean family in East Berlin . His great-grandfather Albert Stolzenburg and his grandfather Freimut Stolzenburg were communist revolutionaries and resistance fighters.

At first Stolzenburg staged with independent theater groups in Berlin. From 1995 to 1998 he was assistant director at the Berliner Ensemble . Here he worked for Thomas Heise and as a stage manager for Robert Wilson . Stolzenburg then completed a degree in directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . In 2004, he staged his diploma thesis at Berliner bat with Werwolf by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Harry Baer . During his studies, he worked as assistant director to Thomas Ostermeier at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz . In addition to Ostermeier, Manfred Karge , Peter Zadek and Wolfgang Engler were among his most important teachers.

From 2007 to 2010 Stolzenburg taught at the Music Faculty of the Berlin University of the Arts. From 2011 to 2012 he worked there as a visiting professor in specialist singing / music theater and staged five world premieres by young composers for the 13th Munich Biennale under the title “A Game of Fives”.

His work as a lecturer has taken him to Finland, Greece, Latvia, South Korea and Japan. At the Helsinki Theater Academy he led the Brecht seminar for three years on the courses in acting, directing and drama writing. For the New York University Berlin he teaches in the program "Stanislawski, Brecht and Beyond".

Since October 2014 he has been teaching as a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts in the Acting - Training for Contemporary Theater course.

Directorial work

Stolzenburg worked as a director at the schaubühne , at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin , at the City Theater Bern , at the Freiburg Theater , at Theater Konstanz and at the Theater Magdeburg . At the German National Theater in Weimar , he worked from 2013 as a staff director.

His work outside Germany includes two world premieres in Helsinki at the Viirus Theater and the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as a Japanese premiere at the Seika Theater in Osaka.
