Ernst von Borcke (Major General)

Ernst Gottlieb Kurt von Borcke (born November 13, 1774 in Stargard in Pomerania , † January 25, 1838 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general and engineer officer.

Life

origin

He came from the Old Pomeranian Borcke family and was the son of the Prussian major a. D. Ernst Gottlieb Kurt von Borcke (1757–1816), gentleman on Dewsberg , and his wife Anna, née Greinert, widowed Hallensleben. His brother Karl August Ferdinand von Borcke was a Prussian major general.

Military career

From April 22nd, 1789, Borcke visited the new building of the Cadet House in Berlin and on April 5th, 1790 came as an apprentice to the engineering academy in Potsdam. After his training, he became second lieutenant on March 14, 1794 with a patent from March 16, 1794 , initially worked in the engineering corps in Pillau and was transferred to Danzig on February 14, 1805 . During the Fourth Coalition War , Borcke received two minor head wounds while defending the city. Awarded the order Pour le Mérite for his bravery on June 18, 1807 , he was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant on July 18, 1809 from the place in Kolberg, and in this position on February 14, 1810 . On September 3, 1811 Borcke rose to staff captain and acted as an engineer officer from the square in Pillau. On August 20, 1813, he was promoted to captain and on January 1, 1814, he came to Danzig as an engineer officer.

After the war, on April 20, 1816, he became a major in the 1st Engineer Brigade. On February 3, 1819, he became an engineer brigadier and inspector of the East and West Prussian fortress inspection. In 1825 he received the service cross and on January 18, 1826 the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class. On March 30, 1739, Borcke was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on January 18, 1833 he was awarded the Red Eagle Order III. Class. With a patent from April 3, 1834, he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1834 . On January 22, 1838 Borcke received his departure with the character of a major general and the statutory pension . But he died on January 25, 1838 in Königsberg in Prussia.

family

Borcke married Johanna Karoline von der Heyde on June 9, 1811 in Kolberg († July 8, 1811). After the early death of his first wife, he married Elisabeth Friederike Amalie von Sarbski (* 1794 - May 4, 1863), a daughter of Captain Johann Ferdinand von Sarbski, on June 23, 1812 in Pillau. The couple had several children including:

  • Karl Ernst August Ferdinand (* November 5, 1813; † April 30, 1882) ⚭ 1843 Countess Amanda von der Groeben (* August 12, 1825; † February 8, 1892)
  • Adolf Ferdinand (April 26, 1818 - April 30, 1818)
  • Hermann Karl (born November 15, 1821 - † February 17, 1881)

  1. The information about Priesdorf and Gotha were his parents Christian Ernst von Borcke (1731–1792) and Ernestine Frederike von Manteuffel (1731–1822). But it should have been his grandparents. After Marcelli Janecki : Handbook of the Prussian Nobility. Volume 2, p. 136, however , the supposed mother was married to Henning Georg von Brockhusen (1728–1777), which also seems plausible from the point of view of age.
