Eternal Triangle 86 (German: "Eternal Triangle 86") was a FTX NATO - combat training of the 1st British Armored Division mainly with German participation in the fall of 1986 in southern Lower Saxony , Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia .

Eternal Triangle 86 took place with the participation of British , German , Danish and Dutch armed forces from October 20 to November 7, 1986 in the Braunschweig , Wolfenbüttel , Goslar , Northeim , Hanover , Rinteln , Uslar , Paderborn , Höxter , Einbeck , Göttingen , Hann. Münden , Kassel-Calden , Korbach , Meschede , Arnsberg , Unna and Kamen . Around 21,000 soldiers, 3,500 wheeled vehicles and 1,600 tracked vehicles (350 battle tanks and 70 self-propelled guns) and 90 helicopters were involved in the exercise.

The core exercise period was from October 20 to 31, 1986 and the march back took place on November 7, 1986. The maneuver center of Eternal Triangle 86 was in Willebadessen . A bridge was built over the Diemel near Haueda and an air landing. The number of main battle tanks was significantly reduced due to the high maneuver damage of Crossed Swords 86 , which was carried out by the Belgian armed forces and began on September 8, 1986. In addition to other maneuver damage, a British Centurion tank that hit four parked cars caused damage of DM 30,000 .
