Euregio Weinviertel-South Moravia-West Slovakia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Euregio Weinviertel – South Moravia – West Slovakia is a European region between the states of Austria , the Czech Republic and Slovakia . It was founded in 1997, at a time when only Austria was part of the EU .

location

The region includes the following regions:

The area comprises 270 communities in which around one million people live. This does not include the three large cities of Vienna , Brno and Bratislava themselves. The Lower Austrian share corresponds to the main Weinviertel region in the state's spatial planning.

development

All three regions have in common that they were on this side or on the other side of the Iron Curtain until the fall of the Wall in 1989 and were therefore economically very disadvantaged, even if the developments in the individual countries varied depending on the politics in the respective country.

70% of the area is used for agriculture . Another large part is under various levels of nature protection , such as the Donauauen and Thayatal national parks in Austria or the Národní park Podyjí in the Czech Republic. Since 2007, the entire area of the Danube-March-Thayaauen has been designated as a Ramsar area.

organization

The Euregio Center is located in Zistersdorf . Regional development agencies are located in Brno , Břeclav , Malacky , Pezinok , Trnava , Senec and Galanta . In addition, there are ten regional offices that are set up primarily at national borders and are intended to act as cross-border impulse centers.

aims

In addition to improving the language skills of the respective other countries, training in the regions and thus the labor market is also to be improved by establishing additional schools such as HTL or technical colleges . By creating additional jobs, the number of commuters should be reduced and the journeys to the workplace shortened.

Another common goal is to improve the common agriculture and viticulture , which is practiced in the entire region, in particular. The entire area of this newly organized wine-growing region will thus become one of the largest in Europe.

Also the tourism is to be improved through a joint marketing. For example, the Amber Road runs through all three regions and could be a focal point for further enlargement. Even the gentle tourism in the context of conservation measures is encouraged.
