The Evangelical Superintendentur HB Böhmen was a superintendent of the Evangelical Church HB in Austria , which existed from 1785 to 1918.
organization
The superintendent included 61 (as of 1913) Czech-speaking parishes in Bohemia . In 1913 it had around 80,000 believers. It was divided into three seniorates : the Chrudimer Seniorat , the Podiebrader Seniorat and the Prague Seniorat . The office of the superintendent at their head was not fixed and depended on where he was the parish priest.
history
The Evangelical Superintendentur HB Böhmen was set up like the Evangelical Superintendentur HB Moravia in 1785 under Emperor Joseph II .
The superintendents of Bohemia were (term of office in brackets):
- Ferenc Kovács (1785–1788)
- Samuel Szücs (1788–1798)
- György Fazekas (1798–1810)
- László Baka (1810-1820)
- Matěj Kubeš (1820–1855)
- František Filipi (1857–1861)
- Jan Veselý (1863-1889)
- Justus Emanuel Szalatnay (1889–1910)
- Čeněk Dušek (1910-1918)
In the middle of the 19th century a neo- Hussite movement was formed in the Bohemian lands , which referred to the legacy of the Confessio Bohemica . Its supporters emphasized, in the national sense, decidedly Czech Reformation traditions. This went hand in hand with a demarcation from the political and ecclesiastical center of Vienna . The events on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus in 1905 formed a first high point in the endeavor to create a united “Czech national church ”, which should also include the Czech parishes of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria . On December 17, 1918, the Czech communities AB and HB declared their separation from the Evangelical Churches AB and HB in Austria at a general synod in Prague. This meant the end of the Evangelical Superintendent of HB Bohemia. From then on, their parishes belonged to the Uniate Evangelical Church of the Bohemian Brethren .
