Everhard Illigens (born January 12, 1851 in Münster , † January 2, 1914 in Münster) was a Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Münster .

Life

Everhard Illigens graduated in 1869 at the High School Paulinum in Münster, the High School and then studied at the Academy philosophy and Catholic theology . On August 9, 1874, he was supported by Bishop John Bernhard Brinkmann in Münster Cathedral for priests ordained . Because of the Kulturkampf , he initially took a job as a chaplain to Freiherr von Elmendorff at Gut Füchtel near Vechta and at the same time helped out as a pastor in the parish of St. Marien in Oythe . In 1876 the bishop appointed him first as a cooperator and in 1881 as vicar to St. Gertrud in Lohne . In 1882 he was given pastoral care as chaplain for the diaspora community in Bant and in 1887 Bishop Illigens appointed canon to St. Remigius in Borken .

In 1890, the new bishop Hermann Jakob Dingelstad sent him to Lübeck as pastor of the congregation that then comprised the entire city and the surrounding area . During his term of office, today's Provost Church of the Heart of Jesus was inaugurated. In 1896 Illigens published a comprehensive account of the history of the former Lübeck diocese . With this work Illigens proved to be an outstanding expert on the history of the Reformation, especially in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

In 1900, Bishop Illigens appointed parish dean of St. Christophorus in Werne , in 1903 for the reign of the seminary in Münster and at the same time appointed him to the clergy . From 1905 onwards Illigens was also canon in Münster and from 1911 also cathedral dean .

On February 28, 1909, Pope Pius X appointed him auxiliary bishop in Münster and titular bishop of Germanicia . He was consecrated as a bishop on March 28, 1909, by Bishop Dingelstad. Cocoon screechers were the Osnabrück bishop Hubertus Voss and the Cologne auxiliary bishop Joseph Müller .

Everhard Illigens died on January 2nd, 1914 and was buried in the canon cemetery at Münster Cathedral.
