FT 30 index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FT 30 Index ( not FTSE 30 ) is a British share index that tracks the development of 30 companies from various sectors outside the financial sector. The index was initiated by the Financial News, a predecessor of the Financial Times . It was calculated for the first time on July 1, 1935 under the name FN Ordinary Index, making it the oldest British stock index and one of the oldest stock market barometers at all. When new British indices were introduced in the 1960s, attention fell to the FT 30. With the start of the FTSE 100 Index in 1984, the index continued to lose importance. In contrast to other stock indices, a committee made up of editors and financial and statistical experts from the Financial Times determines the composition of the index.
