General

At the University of the Police of the State of Brandenburg the training and further education of all police officers for the entire state takes place.

On the modern campus in Oranienburg, the officers of the middle and the higher police force of the state of Brandenburg are trained. The university campus was completed in 2006 and has lecture halls, specialist cabinets, a university library and teaching guard, an indoor shooting range, sports fields as well as a judo and sports hall, WiFi and a traffic training area. There are currently more than 1,000 candidates in parallel in the 2½-year training or 3-year course.

At the same time, the university serves to maintain and develop police-related sciences through teaching, studies, advanced training and research. The course on campus for the upscale police enforcement service is carried out as an accredited bachelor's degree "BA - Police Service". In addition - probably from October 2020 - there will be a master’s degree in “Criminology” to help secure skilled workers in the criminal investigation department.

Further tasks for the University of the Police are the advancement training to the higher and higher police service. Parts of the promotion to the higher police enforcement service are carried out together with the Berlin police. Training for the police of the German Bundestag is also carried out on campus.

Oranienburg is also responsible for the organization and, in some cases, the implementation of the police training for the state of Brandenburg. In order to ensure short distances, the university also maintains decentralized training locations throughout the state.

history

With its re-establishment in 1990, the state of Brandenburg was also faced with the task of adequately training its police to carry out their tasks. In the course of 1991 two educational institutions were therefore created.

At the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration of the State of Brandenburg (FHöV) in Bernau (1991–1998), the candidates for the higher service of the state and municipal administration studied together with those for the police enforcement service. At the same time, the adaptation training for the administrative employees of the state and the local government took place there.

At the state police school (LPS) of the state of Brandenburg in Basdorf (1991-1998) the training of the middle police force, the adaptation training for all police officers of the state as well as the entire police-related training took place. In addition to face-to-face training for the middle class, advancement training and distance training for the higher class were also successfully offered.

The more and more deepening cooperation between the two educational institutions over the years as well as a reorientation in education and training in the state of Brandenburg led to the merger of FHöV and LPS and the establishment of the FHPol with location in Basdorf (1998-2006).

In connection with the structural reform of the police in 2002, it was decided to relocate the FHPol from Basdorf to Oranienburg. After extensive modernization and new building measures, the FHPol was able to move into its new campus designed according to modern standards in summer 2006. During the National Socialist era, the site was used as a barracks for the Schutzstaffel (SS) and was part of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp complex .

On July 1, 2019, the name was changed to University of the Police of the State of Brandenburg.
