history

The former Waldhufendorf was created around 1160 and first mentioned in 1350 as Valkenberg , in 1445 as Falkemberg and in 1496 Falkenberg is the name for the mining settlement of a Valke or place where falcons fly .

When it was founded, the village probably belonged to the Bieberstein lordship . In the 14th and 15th centuries it was under the control of the Freiberg Virgin Monastery. In 1548 the manor was with the council of Freiberg. Country Magnificent administrative districts of Falkenberg were in 1378, the castrum Freiberg and around 1548 to 1856, the Electoral Saxon and Royal Saxon Regional Authority Freiberg . From 1856 Falkenberg belonged to the Freiberg court office and, after the judiciary and administration were separated, from 1875 to the Freiberg district administration . In 1539 Falkenberg was parish to Conradsdorf, from 1930 it belonged to the parish of Conradsdorf.

From 1512 to 1838 silver and copper mining can be traced on the Falkenberg side. In 1567 Falkenberg had a stamp mill on the Bobritzsch . After 1715 the mine field of the royal mine König-August-Erbstolln was relocated from Niederschöna to the Falkenberg valley side.

The historic arched bridge spanning the Bobritzsch near the town limits of Falkenberg was built in stone around 1567 on the orders of Elector August of Saxony (1553–1586). In addition to the arch bridge is the former Erblehnmühle that to 1545 for Erbgericht belonged. Other mills in Falkenberg were the oil mill (closed in 1947) and the Börnermühle (closed in 1943).

About one kilometer from the Falkenberger Steinbogenbrücke along the romantic Bobritzschtal downstream is the Schafbrücke, one of the oldest bridges in the Freiberg mining area . The bridge was used to cross the herds of sheep from the surrounding manors over the Bobritzsch, which led to the name of the bridge. In 1983 the bridge was restored by Heimatfreunde. The flood damage of August 2002 made it necessary to repair the bridge again in the same year. Further down the river is the Salt Bridge , a road bridge on the Salt Road , which gave the bridge its name. The precious salt was transported from the Halle region to Bohemia. Both bridges are listed as cultural and historical monuments.

From 1922 to 1970, Falkenberg had a stop on the narrow-gauge railway Klingenberg-Colmnitz-Oberdittmannsdorf east of the Bobritzsch . In the former route there is a bike and hiking trail.

On July 1, 1950, it was incorporated into the neighboring Conradsdorf . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Falkenberg came as a district of Conradsdorf in 1952 to the Freiberg district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Freiberg from 1990 and in 2008 in the district of central Saxony rose. With the incorporation of the municipality of Conradsdorf with its districts after Halsbrücke, Falkenberg has been a district of Halsbrücke since March 1, 1994.
