The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme ( FIM ), also known in German as the World Motorcycle Association , is the top international motorcycle sport organization that represents 90 national associations and is divided into six continental units.
The five disciplines of circuit racing , motocross , trial , enduro and track racing are supervised by the FIM and 34 world championships are held. Aside from active racing, the FIM is active as a representative of motorcycle sport in the areas of marketing, security and politics.
The respective FMN ( French : Fédération Motocyclisme National , national member federation of the FIM / UEM) are responsible for the implementation in national sports law .
The national sport sovereignty and the implementation of the FIM regulations is exercised in Germany by the German Motor Sport Federation , in Austria by the OSK and in Switzerland by the Federation of Motorcyclists of Switzerland .
history
The FIM emerged from the Fédération Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes (FICM), which was founded in Paris on December 21, 1904 . The UK Auto-Cycle Union was a founding member of the FIM. In July 1906 the association was re-established in Patzau and temporarily dissolved in 1907. In 1912 it was re-established, now based in England. The Six Days Reliability Trial the following year was the new organization's first international event.
In 1949 the name was changed to Fédération Internationale Motocycliste and the first season of the motorcycle world championship took place. The association's headquarters were relocated to Geneva , Switzerland , in 1959 . Since 1994, the FIM has resided in Mies, Switzerland, in a building that was modeled on a motorcycle.
In 1998, a new name change to Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme was decided at a congress in Cape Town . In the same year, the FIM was provisionally recognized by the International Olympic Committee and in 2000 received official status as a member.
