Felipe Fernández García (born August 30, 1935 in San Pedro de Trones , † April 6, 2012 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna ) was Roman Catholic bishop of San Cristóbal de La Laguna o Tenerife .

Life

Felipe Fernández García received in the July 28, 1957 Plasencia the priesthood . In 1958 he graduated in theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca and in 1960 in social sciences from the Roman Pontifical Gregorian University .

From 1960 to 1965 he was vicar of the parish of St. James in Don Benito, Badajoz as well as adviser to various movements of Catholic Action . He was also a professor at the Colegio Público de Plasencia from 1960 to 1965 . From 1965 to 1969 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the Pastoral Misionera magazine . From 1968 to 1976 he was professor of sociology , Catholic social teaching and pastoral theology in the seminary of the diocese of Plasencia . From 1969 to 1976 he was pastoral vicar in Plasencia and from 1972 to 1976 professor at the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 22, 1976 Bishop of Ávila . The apostolic nuncio in Spain , Luigi Dadaglio , donated to him on 28 November 1976 in the Cathedral of Avila the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Maximino Romero de Lema , Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy , and José Delicado Baeza , Archbishop of Valladolid . He was responsible for the Catholic Action in Spain and from 1977 to 1984 for the Presidente de Manos Unidas-Campaña contra el Hambre . In 1987 he was a member of the Synod of Bishops on the Laity.

On June 12, 1991, he was appointed Bishop of San Cristóbal de La Laguna o Tenerife by Pope John Paul II , and on July 25, 1991, he was appointed to the office. He was a member of the Episcopal Commissions for the Apostolate of the Laity (1976-1984), Cultural Heritage (1990-1993) and the Clergy (1993-2005). From 1984 to 1990 he was President of CEAS Common European Asylum System (CEAS), a commission for the creation of a common European asylum system in the European Union .

On June 29, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request for health reasons.
