The Schonach – Belchen long-distance ski trail is the longest ski trail in the Black Forest . It connects the cross-country skiing centers in Schonach and Multen am Belchen , its total length is approx. 100 kilometers. This makes it longer than the Hinterzarten – Schluchsee long-distance ski trail, the other long-distance ski trail in the Upper Black Forest.

Route

The Schonach – Belchen long-distance skiing trail connects the cross-country skiing centers in Schonach and am Belchen and links numerous circular trails in the central and southern Black Forest . It roughly follows the course of federal highways 500 ( Schwarzwaldhochstraße ) and 317 .

Important stations are:

The route links largely existing circular trails:

  • Schonach to Schönwald: Schonach circular trails: Höfleberg trail - Langenwald trail, World Cup trail - Loipenhaus trail - Leptig trail - Panorama trail
  • Schönwald : Schönwald circular trails: Farnberg trail - Weißenbach trail - then back on the Farnberg trail
  • Schönwald to Martinskapelle: connecting trail
  • Martinskapelle to Brend: first floodlit trail at the Martinskapelle, then on to the Roßeck route in Furtwangen (previously: Martinskapelle fitness trail - Roßeck Runde), then connecting trail
  • Brend to Neukirch: Neukirch village trail
  • Neukirch to Waldau: connecting trail (at the Kalten Herberge: junction to trail 1 Urach, trail 2, which was partly identical to the long-distance skiing trail, has not been groomed for several years)
  • Waldau : Waldau circular trail
  • Waldau to Thurner: connecting trail

Technology, track

The Schonach – Belchen long-distance ski hiking trail is almost completely mechanically groomed for the classic technique. Only in the Feldberg nature reserve , between Rinken and Todtnauer Hütte, are there no tracks due to the danger of avalanches . Here the runners have to set their own tracks.

The trail is marked with orange-colored signs and - on open spaces - with marker poles. This also applies to the non-tracked section on the Feldberg. In March 2006 the long distance skiing trail from Schonach to Belchen was completely re-measured and then completely re-marked in November 2006.

Skating is not allowed on the long-distance skiing trail, but since the route largely connects existing circular trails, skating is possible on some sections if these circular trails are designed for this technique. This applies to trails in Hinterzarten and on Notschrei.

Elevation profile, character, ambition

With a total length of 100 kilometers, the route has its lowest point at 870 meters in Schonach (Hinterzarten: 890 meters) and its highest point at 1420 meters on the Feldberg. This difference in altitude of 550 meters is converted into a total of approx. 2300 meters of ascent through numerous climbs and descents.

Competitions that are held on this route are won in times of a little over five to seven and a half hours, but normal cross-country skiers usually divide the route into three daily stages of 30 to 35 kilometers. The tourist associations on the route offer suggestions with overnight stays for such tours.

organization

The Fernskiwanderweg is run by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Skiwanderwege Schwarzwald e. V. with headquarters in Schonach marked and maintained. Numerous cross-country skiing associations, towns and communities as well as ski clubs are members. The long-distance skiing trail is planned, laid out and maintained with the support of the Baden-Württemberg State Forest Administration , the Southern Black Forest Nature Park e. V. , the German Ski Association and the neighboring communities.

The use of the long-distance skiing trail is free of charge.

Competitions

Cross-country races are held regularly on the long-distance ski trail:

Until 2006:

  • the 100-kilometer rucksack run for the " Wäldercup ", from Schonach to Multen, in February, organized by ArGe Skiwanderwege Schwarzwald e. V.
  • the Black Forest Ski Marathon (SSM), whose route from Schonach to Hinterzarten (60 km) is identical to that of the long-distance skiing trail (with the variant of the beginners' SSM over 35 km from Neukirch to Hinterzarten), organized by the Schwarzwälder Ski-Marathon e . V., from 1974 to 2005

Since 2006:

Due to the bad snow conditions in recent years, the Black Forest Ski Marathon had to be canceled several times. For this reason, the number of participants fell so sharply over the years that the economically necessary number of participants could no longer be achieved. Since it was first held in 1974, the ski marathon had been advertised 32 times, but it could only be run 19 times. It was canceled 13 times due to lack of snow.

For these reasons the Schwarzwälder Ski-Marathon e. V. dissolved and the two races merged. Since 2006, the 100-kilometer backpack run for the "Wäldercup" with the variant of the small backpack run (60 km) has been organized in February.
