Filip Zadina (* 27. November 1999 in Pardubice ) is a Czech ice hockey player who since July 2018 with the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League for Use comes. He was selected in sixth position by the Red Wings in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft .
Career
Filip Zadina started his career with HC Pardubice from his hometown. For the U20 of the club, he played in the top Czech junior league from the 2014/15 season before making his debut for the professional division in the extra league the following season . He was then considered in the KHL Junior Draft 2016 in 147th position by Lokomotive Yaroslavl , but initially stayed in Pardubice, where he made 25 appearances in the Extra League in the 2016/17 season. The winger then denied the relegation with his team and was able to avoid relegation there.
As a result, Zadina decided to move to North America and, at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, joined the Halifax Mooseheads from the Canadian Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ), who previously took him eleventh in the 2017 CHL Import Draft had taken into account. With the Mooseheads he established himself as a regular goalscorer, so he led his team with 44 goals scored, while also among the rookies of the league no player recorded more goals or scorer points (82). As a result, he was elected to the First All-Star Team and the All-Rookie Team of the LHJMQ and was awarded the Michael Bossy Trophy , which honors the player who has the best chance of a successful career in the National Hockey League (NHL). At the same time, Zadina was considered to be one of the outstanding talents in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft 2018 , so the Central Scouting Service rated him third among the North American outfield players. Overall, he was traded behind Rasmus Dahlin and Andrei Swetschnikow as a likely third choice in the draft, before he was considered in the end in sixth position by the Detroit Red Wings . They provided him with an entry-level contract in July 2018 . As part of the preparation for the 2018/19 season, Zadina was initially handed over to the Red Wings farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins from the American Hockey League (AHL). In February 2019 he was finally called to Detroit for the first time, so that he made his debut in the NHL a little later.
International
Zadina gained his first international experience during the 2015/16 season, when he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2015 and the U18 World Championship in 2016 , finishing seventh in each of the Czech teams. In August 2016, the gold medal followed at the domestic Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2016 , before he contested another world championship at U18 level in spring 2017 . The attacker made his debut for the Czech U20 national team at the 2018 U20 World Cup , leading his team with seven goals and being elected to the tournament's all-star team. A year later he took part in the 2019 U20 World Cup.
In addition, he completed his first assignments for the senior national team in his home country as part of the Euro Hockey Tour 2017/18 .

His father Marek Zadina was also a hockey player, played over 600 games in the top Czech league and has also been a coach since 2013.
