First fandom
The term first fandom comes from science fiction. Defines this to mean first of all the whole body of the fandom (fan base) of the Science Fiction interested, which even before the holding of the first Worldcon from July 2 - 4 July 1939 , in the caravan Hall in New York , chaired by Sam Moskowitz who actively sought fandom.
founding
On the Easter weekend of 1959 , science fiction fans officially founded the organization First Fandom at the so-called "Midwestcon" . The aim of this association was and is to organize the fans from the golden era of science fiction and to actively reintegrate those fans into fandom who had left it. Membership was initially linked to an activity in fandom prior to the date and event mentioned above. Over time, however, other categories of membership were created.
In principle, it can be assumed that anyone who has been involved in correspondence within the fandom, assembly activity or as a collector for at least 30 years, someone who collects fanzines , writes for them or publishes them, is generally active as an author or SF- Organized fan clubs, be it as a writer or an active member, is eligible for membership.
Prices
The organization also awards two prizes each year in the field of science fiction literature:
The prizes are usually awarded at the beginning of the annual Worldcon .
