Fischbeck is a district in the Lower Saxony municipality of Hessisch Oldendorf in the Hameln-Pyrmont district . The place is at the confluence of the nutrient brook into the Weser at river kilometer 142 at an altitude of about 62 meters above sea level and rises continuously towards the northeast to the Süntel ridge . history
On January 29, 1973, the previously independent community of Fischbeck (Weser) was incorporated into the city of Hessisch Oldendorf.
Events
On July 19, 1966, the village center was flooded after a tidal wave up to 4 meters high, which was triggered by a dam breach. There were no human lives to complain about, but there was great property damage and dead cattle.
Infrastructure and economy
The place had its own train station on the Weserbahn , which is no longer served today. In public transport bus routes. The next train stations are in the main town and in Hameln. Federal highway 83 ran through Fischbeck until the bypass was completed . One of the closest motorway exits is Rehren on the federal motorway 2 . The next international airport is near Hanover . Although the place still has a rather rural structure, agriculture no longer plays a role today. Commercial life is shaped by medium-sized craft companies.
There are two facilities of the German Deaf- Blind Relief Organization with dormitories and workshops for multi- handicapped deaf-blind adults.
Culture and sights
Probably the most important sights in Fischbeck are the Fischbeck Abbey , a monastery founded in 955 in the center of the village and the ruins of Heineburg Castle about a kilometer to the southeast .
