Fyodor Vladimirovich Jemeljanenko ( Russian Фёдор Владимирович Емельяненко , English transcription Fedor Emelianenko ; born September 28, 1976 in Rubischne ) is a Russian sambo and MMA fighter. Emelianenko won several titles and awards in several sports, most notably the heavyweight title in the Pride FC organization (from 2003 to 2007), which he never lost. He also became a four-time world champion in sambo at the FIAS World Combat Sambo Championships and a two-time bronze medalist in judo at the Russian national championships in 1998 and 1999.
Life
Fyodor Vladimirovich Jemeljanenko was born in 1976 in the Ukrainian SSR , former Soviet Union . His mother, Olga Fedorovna, was a teacher, and his father, Vladimir Alexandrovich, was a welder. Fyodor has a younger brother, Alexander Vladimirovich Jemeljanenko ( Russian Александр Владимирович Емельяненко ; born August 2, 1981). In 1978 his family moved to Belgorod . Emelianenko graduated from high school in 1994 with honors. From 1995 to 1997 he served in the army as a military firefighter.
MMA career
Jemeljanenko began his MMA career on May 21, 2000 with four consecutive wins, including a win over ADCC Champion Ricardo Arona. On December 22nd, 2000 he suffered a controversial defeat during a fight against Tsuyoshi Kohsaka , in which he suffered a significant cut after only 17 seconds with an illegal elbow strike , which, according to the doctors present, prevented the fight from continuing. The main controversy was the ignoring of the elbow rule, which forbids any use in the RINGS organization. In the repetition it was clearly visible that the cut came from Kohsaka's missed punch. It was the only blow that occurred in the 17 seconds of fighting time. As it was a tournament format that according to the statutes must be a winner, Kohsaka was automatically declared the winner. In his next 28 fights, until June 26, 2010, he remained undefeated, which represents a period of almost ten years. Overall with victories against Semmy Schilt (2002), Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira (2003, 2004), Mark Coleman (2004, 2006), Kevin Randleman (2004), Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (2005), Mark Hunt (2006), Tim Sylvia (2008) and Andrei Arlovski (2009).
Jemeljanenko is the longest reigning linear heavyweight champion in the world (from 2003 to 2010) and the longest No. 1 “pound for pound” fighter (from 2003 to 2010) in the history of mixed martial arts.
On February 13, 2011 Fyodor Jemeljanenko lost as part of the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix 2011 against the Brazilian Antonio Silva. This was the second lost fight in a row. Thereupon Jemelyanenko announced his resignation in the subsequent interview. This was later revoked by its management. The next fight took place on June 30, 2011 (VA Strikeforce 2011). The opponent was Dan Henderson . Jemeljanenko lost this to TKO in the first round. On October 4, 2011, Jemelyanenko was released from his contract with Strikeforce after three defeats in a row. UFC President Dana White announced this on August 4, 2011 in MMA Weekly. Jemelyanenko replied in an interview a week later that he had no contract with Strikeforce and that his current contractor was Showtime and that White's comments should not be heeded. From two more fights after this confrontation, Jemelyanenko emerged victorious again.
On June 21, 2012, Fedor Emelianenko had his last fight at the M1 Global in St. Petersburg (Russia). His opponent was Pedro Rizzo, who was knocked out by Fedor after 1:24 minutes in the first round. After the fight, he officially announced his retirement from MMA. Nevertheless, he will remain in the sport as President of the "Russian MMA Union". On December 31, 2015, Emelianenko entered the ring again as an active fighter and defeated the 28-year-old Jaideep Singh in the first round.
Fyodor Jemeljanenko is a co-owner of M-1 Global .
