Florian Michael Koch (born March 26, 1992 in Bonn ) is a German basketball player . From his youth, Koch played for the Bonn first division team Telekom Baskets . With a double license , Koch was used from 2011 to 2013 mainly for the Dragons Rhöndorf in the third highest German league ProB . Since the 2013/14 season he has been part of the rotation of the Telekom Baskets first division team. After the 2016/17 season , Koch announced that he would no longer play for Bonn in the future. With the German A2 national team, Koch took part in the 2013 Summer Universiade .

Career

Beginnings in the NBBL and ProB

Koch joined the youth team at Telekom Baskets in his hometown of Bonn in 2005, after initially doing sports as a soccer goalkeeper in his childhood . With the junior team of the Bonn / Rhöndorf syndicate, which was formed by the clubs of the first and second division, Koch played in the youth basketball league (NBBL) from 2008 . After the team had reached the semi-finals twice before Koch's time in the early history of the NBBL, they missed qualifying for the NBBL Top Four in the following three years . In the DBB's junior selection teams , Koch was always in the extended squad, but missed the nomination for a final tournament at international championships.

In the 2011/12 season Koch came under his unrelated namesake coach Michael Koch at the Telekom Baskets for his first four appearances in the top German league, but was otherwise mainly active for the Bonn " farm team " Dragons Rhöndorf through a double license . The Dragons had withdrawn from the second highest division ProA this season and were defeated at the end of the season in the ProB 2011/12 in the first play-off round of the first division reserve team SG Braunschweig . Koch himself was named Youngster of the Month in the ProB in February 2012 and won this award again for the same month of the following year a year later. In the ProB 2012/13, the Rhöndorfer, as the first in the main round in the southern group, surprisingly lost to the BSW Sixers again in the first play-off round. In the summer of 2013, Koch, who completed his training as an industrial clerk in January 2013, was part of the final squad of the German national team under the former Rhöndorf club trainer Olaf Stolz at the 2013 Summer Universiade . However, the A2 national team only finished the tournament in twelfth place.

Bundesliga player at Telekom Baskets Bonn

After nine further premier league appearances in the 2012/13 season at Telekom Baskets, including two in the also lost first play-off round for the German championship, Koch moved more strongly in the 2013/14 season under the new coach Mathias Fischer the rotation of the players used and was used in almost every first division game, although Koch only came up with an average playing time of just under five minutes per game.

In the following season 2014/15 Koch was used in every league and cup game with one exception. In an average of just under seven and a half minutes of playing time, he scored 2.6 points per game. After the end of the season, Koch extended his contract with Telekom Baskets for another two years until summer 2017.

In the 2015/16 season , Koch was able to increase his working time significantly and made it onto the starting line-up of the Telekom Baskets for the first time . Especially after the change of coach in December 2015, Koch showed himself to be greatly improved under the new coach Carsten Pohl, his former mentor and individual coach, and was often able to score double-digit points. In the 109: 96 victory against the Walter Tigers Tübingen , Koch was the best player of the encounter with 20 points, eight rebounds and four ball wins. On January 17, 2016, Koch set a new personal best with 22 points in the home game against ratiopharm ulm and was the top scorer of the game.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , Koch was initially unable to build on the good performance of the previous season. However, he showed on November 15, 2016 in the 89:90 defeat against the Södertälje Kings with 19 points and four rebounds in just under 31 minutes, a new record on the European stage.

Bundesliga time in Ludwigsburg and Würzburg

After the 2016/2017 season, Koch announced that he would no longer extend his expiring contract with Telekom Baskets and that he wanted to take on a new challenge. In mid-June he signed a contract with the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg until 2018 . During the 2017/18 season, Koch was used in 30 Bundesliga games and averaged three points per game with an average playing time of 6:40 minutes per match.

At the end of May 2018, another Bundesliga team, S.Oliver Würzburg , signed him.
