French women's football championship 1985/86
The 1985/86 French women's football championship was the twelfth to play this title after the official recognition of women's football by the French Football Association, the FFF , in 1970.
The 1985/86 championship - there was no top division in France before 1992 - was played in a mixture of group play - and knockout mode ; In order to take part in the nationwide final round, the women's teams had to qualify at the regional level beforehand. The previous year's champions from VGA Saint-Maur reached the final again, prevailing against ASJ Soyaux and thus won their third French championship title within four years.
Preliminary round
Initially, a double round of points with home and away legs was played in eight regionally divided groups of six women each. The three best groups in the group, a total of 24 teams, reached the next round, the quarter-finals, while the other 24 teams played for the so-called Championnat de Deuxième Division , i.e. the second division championship. In the groups of the first two rounds, each club competed against each other twice, in a home and an away game. If two or more teams were tied - the two-point rule applied - the direct comparison and, if necessary, then the better goal difference from all games was decisive.
In the sources used, no individual results are given for the preliminary round and quarter-finals, but only final placements and plus points. The points given are not complete, however, so that they are not mentioned here for both rounds.

An era came to an end with the withdrawal of the Stade Reims women's team from ongoing gaming operations. The Rémoises had dominated women's football west of the Rhine for around a decade, winning five national championship titles and standing in three other finals. Soon afterwards, some players re-founded the Football Club Féminin de Reims , which had been the nucleus of Reims women's football a good 15 years earlier; However, the FCFR was not granted any notable successes into the 21st century.
Quarter finals
After completing the group games of this round, only the respective first in the table qualified for the semi-finals, whose matches were played in the return leg. The indication of double occupancy is due to the fact that not all game results are known for the quarter-finals.
