Division 1 Féminine 2017/18
2017/18: Clubs of Division 1 (yellow dots, name in bold) and Division 2 Féminine, which is divided into two groups (A: red = northwest, B: green = southeast) |
The 2017/18 season of Division 1 Féminine is the 44th edition of the French women's football championship since the official recognition of women's football in 1970 by the FFF, the French Football Association and the first in the 1974/75 season . The Division 1 Féminine called league is in pure League mode played in a group consisting of a single group, comprising twelve teams, national top division; in this mode it is the 26th championship. The defending champions are the women of Olympique Lyon .
The season started on September 3, 2017 due to the participation of the French women in the European Championship finals and is expected to end on May 27, 2018. There was a winter break between December 17th and January 14th; However, the first division had to intervene in the national cup competition on the first weekend in January .
Qualification and mode of competition
For the eligibility to participate, only the performance of the women's teams in the previous season is taken into account; Qualified are the ten best-placed teams of the previous season as well as two promoted teams, who each finished their group in Division 2 Féminine as first in the table. Due to an appointment negotiation, however, it was not clear until after a play-off in mid-June 2017 whether OSC Lille or ESOF La Roche would rise from the northern group of D2F . In addition, there were two club mergers and transfers of the association license during the summer break. The following twelve participants start this season:
- from the north: Newcomers OSC Lille , Juvisy FCF as Paris FC , Paris Saint-Germain FC , promoted FCF Val d'Orge as FC Fleury
- from the west: Girondins Bordeaux , EA Guingamp , ASJ Soyaux
- from the south: ASPTT Albi , defending champions Olympique Lyon , Olympique Marseille , HSC Montpellier , AF Rodez
For Val d'Orge as for Lille, the participation marks their first division debut.
The championship is played in a double round of points in which each participant competes in home and away games against each other. The usual " three-point rule " applies with three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss; In the event of a tie, the direct comparison first and, if necessary, then the better total goal difference , if there is still a tie, the higher number of hits, if applicable, is decisive. At the end of the season, the two bottom of the table have to be relegated, who will be replaced for the coming season by two promoted teams - the winners of the two groups in the second division.
The French champions as well as the runners-up in Division 1 Féminine qualify for the women's European Cup competition of the following season .
Change of club
Coach Gérard Prêcheur has not renewed his contract with Lyon after winning the title triple twice (championship, national and European cup). He will be replaced this season by Reynald Pedros . In terms of player changes, Montpellier HSC opened the round with the signing of goalkeeper Méline Gérard from Lyon and the Danish national player Katrine Veje (previously Brøndby IF ) for the offensive midfield.
Overall, the transfer market developed more slowly than in previous years, at least until the end of August. Many clubs preferred to renew contracts with their long-standing leading players such as Camille Abily and Corine Petit at Lyon or Gaëtane Thiney at Paris FC. In addition, a number of talents have been tied to their respective clubs.
In addition to Méline Gerard - for whom Pauline Peyraud-Magnin returned to the Rhône from Marseille - Lyon also gave Josephine Henning (Arsenal FC), Pauline Bremer (Manchester City), Caroline Seger (Rosengård FC), Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride) and Aurélie Kaci (Atlético Madrid) from, but signed Lucia Bronze from Manchester City and Shanice van de Sanden from Liverpool FC, just two players who had attracted a lot of attention at the European Championships in the summer. Sabrina Delannoy ended her career at Paris Saint-Germain , PSG also let the top striker Cristiane move on to China, while Jennifer Hermoso Fuentes (FC Barcelona), Melike Pekel (FC Metz), Kadidiatou Diani (Juvisy FCF / Paris FC) and Emma Berglund (FC Rosengård) joined last year's third. The new local rival Paris FC secured the services of the Japanese Ami Otaki (most recently without a club). Salma Amani from Guingamp also moved to newly promoted FC Fleury as did Sarah Palacin from Paris Saint-Germain, Maéva Clemaron from Saint-Étienne and Daphné Corboz from the USA; Bordeaux signed Erin Nayler (most recently at Grenoble), a national goalkeeper from New Zealand. League newcomer Lille relied on three Belgian internationals ( Jana Coryn , Maud Coutereels , Silke Demeyere ) and also brought the 21-year-old striker Ouleymata Sarr from PSG .
At Marseille, Sandrine Brétigny, one of the most successful goalscorers in league history , hung up her football boots, but revised this decision during the winter break.
As of January 2018, Lyon added Amandine Henry and Morgan Brian, returning from the United States, to their squad . For this, the club gave the Norwegian striker Andrea Norheim to Piteå IF ; the 18-year-old had only made one cup appearance in a year and a half. In addition, Claire Lavogez was awarded to FC Fleury and Kenza Dali to OSC Lille so that she can get back to playing after a long period of injury and reconstruction . Paris SG dissolved the contracts with Verónica Boquete (to China) and Laura Georges (to Bayern Munich), and also loaned Perle Morroni to FC Barcelona; in return, three national players were signed with Andrine Hegerberg (Norway), Paulina Dudek (Poland) and Davinia Vanmechelen (Belgium). Finally, the ex-national goal woman Celine Deville left Paris FC, where she was only number two, for second division AS Nancy.
At the start of the season, Sarah M'Barek , now in her fifth season with Guingamp, is the only female coach in France's elite class.

* Placement based on direct comparison
At the end of the first half of the season, Lyon led the table with a flawless record of eleven wins; The autumn champions have managed the feat of winning their five away games all with the same result (5-0). In addition, OL benefited from three own goals by the capital city team in its 9-2 home win against Paris FC on matchday three.
The pursuers PSG and Montpellier were already five and six points behind, respectively, while the fourth-placed Paris FC only had a theoretical chance to intervene in the battle for the two European Cup places that came after the first seven games in the second half of the season in which the former women from Juvisy got only two points, approached zero. Bordeaux and Soyaux were at this point still in due distance to the relegation ranks. Apart from Marseille, which had an excellent fourth place in the previous season as a promoted team, but after this first half of the season was already six points behind a non-relegation place and at that time was the only team to not record a win, Albi, Rodez, Guingamp went as well as both newcomers (Lille and Fleury) - separated by a maximum of two points - in the second half of the season to leave at least one other opponent behind. This failed the women from Albi, who on the last day of the match slipped to the penultimate place behind Guingamp and had to accompany Marseille into the lower house.
At the top of the table, Lyon once again moved unchallenged, only gave up two points on matchday 21 against runner-up Paris and finally won his twelfth national championship title in a row.
This season has a negative record in terms of the number of goals on a single match day, as only seven goals were scored in six games on the first weekend in February 2018. By then, this mark had nine hits ( 2016 , also at the beginning of February). And on matchday 21, this goal doldrums were undercut again with six goals.
For the following season , Division 2 Féminine with FC Metz will be promoted to the “elevator team” of recent years and as an absolute league newcomer to FCO Dijon .
