Division 1 Féminine 2019/20

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2019/20 season of Division 1 Féminine was the 46th edition of the French women's football championship since the official recognition of women's football in 1970 by the FFF, the football association of France , and the first in the 1974/75 season . The Division 1 Féminine called league is in pure League mode played in a group consisting of a single group, comprising twelve teams, national top division; in this mode it was the 28th championship. The women of Olympique Lyon , who were defending their title from last year , became champions for the 14th time in a row.
This was the first season the league had a name sponsor after the FFF signed a three-year contract with the chemical company Arkema .

The season started on August 24, 2019 and should actually end on May 30, 2020. Between December 14th and January 18th there was a long winter break this time; a week before the end of the first division, however, intervened in the sixteenth-finals of the cup . There was another interruption of the league operations from February 24th to March 13th, so that French and foreign players with their national teams at the international tournaments traditionally held at this time ( Algarve Cup , SheBelieves Cup , Tournoi de France , Cyprus Cup and others) could participate. Immediately afterwards, all national gaming operations were discontinued due to the virus pandemic - initially until further notice, then finally in mid-May.

The main day of the match was Saturday, as requested by the pay TV broadcaster Canal + , which, as in the previous season, intended to broadcast all 132 point games. On September 21, 2019, the Trophée des Championnes was played for the first time , i.e. the Supercup in which the winners of the championship and cup competition of the previous season meet.

Qualification and mode of competition

For the eligibility to participate, only the performance of the women's teams in the previous season is taken into account; The ten best-placed teams of the previous season as well as two promoted teams, who had each finished their group of Division 2 Féminine as first in the table , are qualified . Thus the following twelve participants started this season:

The participation is a first for Reims; however, the red and whites from Champagne have five French championship titles and three runner-up titles in their Palmarès , which they won between 1975 and 1982 .

The championship is played regularly in a double round of points, in which each participant competes in home and away games against everyone else. The usual " three-point rule " applies with three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss; In the event of a tie, the direct comparison first and, if necessary, then the better total goal difference , if there is still a tie, the higher number of hits, if applicable, is decisive. At the end of the season, the two bottom of the table have to be relegated, who will be replaced for the coming season by two promoted teams - the winners of the two groups in the second division.

The French champions as well as the runners-up in Division 1 Féminine qualify for the women's European Cup competition of the following season .

Change of club

Even before the opening match of the Women's World Cup kicked off in France , some clubs had already reported the first new arrivals and departures of women. Champion Lyon signed Jéssica Silva , Nikita Parris from Manchester City , Alex Greenwood from Manchester United and Janice Cayman from Montpellier; it left Jessica Fishlock (to Seattle Reign FC ), Carolin Simon and Florencia Soledad Jaime the Rhône -Metropole. There, on the last day of the winter transfer window, after Ada Hegerberg had been seriously injured, another attacker (on loan, only until the end of the season) was added in the form of 18-year-old Naomie Feller from Reims. Paris Saint-Germain brought with the attacker Jordyn Huitema from the Vancouver Whitecaps a courted Canadian talent in the capital and equipped them with a four-year contract; Sara Däbritz and Karina Sævik also signed there. Wang Shuang, however, returned to China. After Däbritz had had an injury-related season since the beginning of December, PSG brought Brazilian national player Luana to the Seine at the turn of the year . Lisa Schmitz , Lena Petermann (both from Turbine Potsdam ) Iva Landeka and in February Mary Fowler
came to Montpellier . There Virginia Torrecilla said goodbye (back to Spain), at Metz Marie-Laure Delie , where Melike Pekel returned. Guingamp has to do without Charlotte Lorgeré and Julie Debever this season . Paris FC secured the services of Marith Müller-Prießen ( 1. FFC Frankfurt ), Claire Savin , who previously played for SC Sand , and in the winter break from Havana Solaun , most recently under contract with Klepp IL .

The last all-women club in the D1F, ASJ Soyaux, secured the services of Kimberley Cazeau (previously with relegated AF Rodez ). With Charlotte Bilbault , Inès Jaurena , Estelle Cascarino (all from Paris FC), Ouleymata Sarr , the Jamaican Khadija Shaw and, at the end of the transfer period, Emelyne Laurent (on loan), Bordeaux has greatly upgraded its personnel and also in the coaching position with Pedro Martínez Losa reinforced. Fleury relies on three Danish entries ( Stine Larsen and Rikke Sevecke from Brøndby IF and Cecilie Sandvej from 1. FFC Frankfurt), and also brought Laëtitia Philippe , Marina Makanza and Marine Dafeur . Newcomers Reims strengthened themselves in the winter with the Dutch defender Vita van der Linden from Bristol Rovers ; the red-whites gave their 18-year-old storm talent Naomie Feller to Lyon, but without an option to buy and only for half a year.

A new trend is emerging this season: a good half a dozen French women, mostly ex-national players, are moving to other European countries, especially to England and Spain, where a number of clubs are investing particularly heavily in women's football. This applies to Kenza Dali (to West Ham United ), Maéva Clemaron ( Everton LFC ), Léa Le Garrec ( Brighton & Hove Albion ), Karima Benameur (Manchester City), Marie-Laure Delie ( Madrid CFF ) and Méline Gérard ( Betis Sevilla ) ; in addition, Julie Debever and in January Annahita Zamanian went to Italy to join Juventus Turin .

At the start of the season, only two first division managers - Paris FC with Sandrine Soubeyrand and Stade Reims with Amandine Miquel  - entrusted the executive chair to a woman. Since then, Montpellier has been coached by Frédéric Mendy , at Lyon Jean-Luc Vasseur has taken over command from Reynald Pedros . (As of January 26, 2020)

After the first half of the season, the usual picture emerged at the top of the table: Lyon had already been able to pull away from Paris Saint-Germain, as the capitals were not only defeated in a direct duel, but also had to record unexpected point losses in front of their own audience. For this reason, Bordeaux and Montpellier were even within reach of the second place entitled to participate in the European Cup. They were followed by the midfield comprising six teams, which in turn had a far from reassuring gap to the relegation ranks. While Metz already looked beaten by a single point, a battle was brewing for the second half of the season, especially between Marseille, Reims and Dijon, over who would have to accompany the Lorraine women into the second division. The newcomers from Reims were four points ahead of fellow promoted Marseille, they had clearly prevailed against OM, but were characterized by a rather unusual weakness: they already got ten points away, but not a single one in their five home games. Soyaux joined the relegation candidates in mid-January; the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG) , the supervisory body of the association responsible for the clubs, not only imposed several spending restrictions on the ASJS for non-compliance with the financial requirements, but also imposed - as the first club of the D1F ever - a 3-point Deduction.

With its decision on May 15, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic , the FFF set the status for relegation and promotion, but also for the top scorer's crown, as of the end of February.

On the second matchday, promoted Reims had scored three goals against Lyon national goalie Sarah Bouhaddi . The last time the series champions had conceded such a high number of goals ten years earlier, in the 2009/10 season against FCF Hénin-Beaumont .
The top game on matchday nine between the tied women from Lyon and Paris brought the league a new visitor record with 30,661 spectators.

For the following season rise from Division 2 Féminine FF Issy and, as the 57th club in league history, the newcomer Le Havre AC .
