Isobel "Izzy" Mary Christiansen (born September 20, 1991 in Macclesfield , United Kingdom ) is an English national soccer player .

Career

society

Christiansen played from 2008 to 2009 for the English first division club Everton LFC . For Everton, at the age of 18, she had a 12-minute appearance in the round of 32 of the 2009/10 UEFA Women's Champions League in a 3-0 draw against Norwegian champions Røa IL . In the 2-0 win in the second leg, which was not enough to advance, she was not used. From 2009 she played for Birmingham City LFC and was twice runner-up with the club (2011 and 2012) and 2012 cup winners. In the 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League she failed again with Birmingham in the round of 32, this time after a 2-0 home win and a 3-0 defeat after extra time in the second leg against Italian runners-up ASD CF Bardolino . A year later, Birmingham even reached the semi-finals of the 2013/14 UEFA Women's Champions League , but Christiansen only appeared in the games of the sixteenth and last sixteen, in which she scored a goal in both games against Russian champions FC Sorki Krasnogorsk . Since she moved to league newcomer Manchester City in early 2014 , she could no longer follow the path of her previous team. She won the championship with Manchester in 2016 and took part in the UEFA Women's Champions League in the 2016/17 season . Here she reached the semi-finals, where, as in the following year , defending champion Olympique Lyon failed. Then she switched to the opponent, with whom she met her former team in the semi-finals of the Women's International Champions Cup on July 27, 2018 and won 3-0, where she was substituted on in the second half. Also in the final, which was lost 1-0 to North Carolina Courage , she was substituted on in the second half. In the second edition in August 2019, which Lyon won, it was not used.

National teams

Christiansen took part with the English U-17 national team as one of four teams in the first U-17 European Championship in 2008 . The English women could not win a game, but by participating they had already qualified for the first U-17 World Cup in 2008 . There she was not used due to an injury in the 3-0 game against Germany for third place. In the quarter-finals against Japan , she scored the goal to equalize 2-2 in the first minute of stoppage time, which allowed extra time, but it remained goalless, so the game had to be decided on penalties .

With the English U-19 national team, she took part in the U-19 European Championships in 2009 and 2010 . They each reached the final. In 2009 the English women won the title for the first time by beating Sweden 2-0, and in 2010 they lost 2-1 to France. In the 2010 semi-finals, after a goalless 120 minutes on penalties, they prevailed against the Dutch women, where she was one of the successful shooters. By making it to the semi-finals in 2009, she had also qualified for the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany . Here she was used in the three group matches. However, since a point was only won in the first game in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria, but lost against Mexico and Japan (0-1 and 1-3 respectively), the English were eliminated as the bottom of the group.

In July 2013 she took part with the British student team at the Summer Universiade in Kazan , where the British women won the gold medal.

On September 21, 2015, she had her first appearance in the senior national team : In the 8-0 in the first European Championship qualifier against Estonia , she also scored her first international goal, which was 5-0 in the meantime. In total, she was used in four qualifying games. She was then nominated for the European Championship squad and used in the group matches against Portugal and Spain . In the semifinals, the English then failed because of the hosts and later European champions Netherlands .

In March 2019, she and the team won the SheBelieves Cup for the first time . In the 3-0 win against Japan , however, she suffered an injury so that she had to undergo an operation. Therefore, she could not be nominated for the 2019 World Cup.
